Topic: Why cant she understand "NO"? Posted: 13 January 2007 at 10:29pm |
I must have said a thousand times to Maya not to push/pull/poke/prod the babies (her fave thing to do is squeeze their cheeks atm) and she has been to her room more times than I can count for not listening.
Well tonight was the final straw. We have just got Bumbo chairs for the gremlins (and they are awesome!) and they were happily sitting up in them. Dad and I were both less than a foot away when for reasons known only to Maya she pushed Mercedes forward and the whole Bumbo chair toppled over with Mercedes still in.
Mercedes screamed. I screamed. Dada started screaming that Mercedes eye was cut (there were lego blocks on the floor) and Maya burst into tears. I told her to go in the other room (not yelling tho, and believe me it was hard to keep my cool) while I comforted Mercedes and made sure that she hadn't actually cut her eye, just gotten a fright.
So I sent Maya to her bedroom and a few minutes later went and gave her the 'talk' about why it is important to listen to Mama and not touch the babies without asking. She said sorry to Mercedes, and that was the end of that.
But the whole thing has really shaken me up. I was so angry with Maya but at the same time I know it wasn't deliberate malice, she didn't mean to hurt her sister. And she is only 3.

Oooh Emma you must have got such a shock! Poor Mercedes.
No advice, sorry. I'm having huge battles with trying to teach Ella to be gentle with Benjy at the moment.
Lots of time outs and trying to engineer positive gentle playtime with the 3 or 4 of us, but its still in one ear and out the other apparently.
Gaaaaah!! Deep breaths!
Sounds like you handled it beautifully by the way, I can't say for sure that I would have been so controlled!

gentle? siblings? do those words go together?.. i didn't think that was gramatically correct.. nor possible in any way. lol
What a monkey. that must have freaked you out so bad.. well done on keeping your cool that would have been so hard!
Can sooo understand the whole 3 yr old nasty girl attitude they get..
We are having tantrums at the mo. even if i just suggest to go to her room and have quiet time, Away from Ayja (who she is hurting or who is pissing her off and hurting her...) paris screams drops to the floor and tantrums am sure neighbours think she is dying or something.. I am having zero tolerance at the mo. asked her 3 times tonight to get jammies and get dresed. went and got jammies, threw them on the floor and ran away. told her to get nappy and come to get dressed please. got nappy, threw it with the jammies, and ran away. finally said right, come to me i would to get you dressed now. she came, threw the jammies and nappy ont he chair next to me, and went back to play. so i said ok come on, come with me. got up to her room, started to get her dressed, which she was fine with, and i then said that she was going straight to bed as she had not listened. boy was she pissed.
he he, also we have a mega tanty whenever i make a certain pasta dish.. which shel oves any other thing the same, just not this..she ate.. 1 piece, of pasta the other night. so that's fine, went to bed hugnry. (this was after over half an hour of waiting for her to get butt into gear) she wasn't happy cos the next night.. i made dinner as usuall, but before giving her the actual dinner.. i took ayjas plate to her, and paris's plate of pasta from the night before onto her table. again, she has been great with eating dinner the last 2 nights since then. little lessons.. prob d o nothing, but better than loosing it.
3 yr old girls.... ARRRGGGH.
hang in there Emma.. lets hope it gets better. he he. why can't they be those wonderful gorgeous girls that we know they can be when they try.

LOL Janine - I might actually have made her eat it
It's nice to know I'm not the only one with a feral three year old, thoe tantrum stories sound all too familiar! I guess if we look on the bright side, at least our girls are a spirited lot and that will be a good thing when they're older (if they survive toddlerdom!)

Dont worry the twins will get their own back. I used to constantly (well it felt like it) tell Alyssa to leave Jayde alone, when she is older she will be mean back to you. Now when they have a scrap its always lissy crying because Jayde doesnt feel pain. ohhh the joys

Yay I'm not the only one who has days like that ..... Ashlyn is always trying to push the boundries and she's not even 3 yet!! argh! but I do try to involve her in helping me get/do stuff for Anastasia even though it takes three times as long but she is just much happier helping and doing with me. Also Anastasia gets her own back too, she has a firery temper and has nipped Ashlyn more than once .... and its really hurt her (have to try and stop that one before it gets a habit!!) Good luck Emma, it's very hard trying to think like a 3 year old and trying to make sence of what is going on in "their world"

Reading this makes Sophie look like an Angel. I feel very lucky as she is really very good on a whole (though we have been through the whole trantrum thing). She is very good with Ephraim on a whole. If anything it's Ephraim that picks on her. The main thing at the moment is her wineing. It can drive one up the wall, but is improving.

Harry is generally good unless he is tired...or I am tired. I find I handle it a lot better if I'm not tired but if I'm tired I don't tend to handle it as well. It can sometimes be very hard to keep a serious face when your kids are having and tanty....some of the things they say are just so funny yet they're so serious.
Harry is generally good with Alex..so far but 'sharing' is going to be an ongoing issue
