Topic: What age did your child start kindy? Posted: 04 November 2008 at 11:36am |
My DD has just been called up to start kindy (she is 2yrs 7mths), i said i wasnt ready yet and would be happier next year, im just wondering what age others started their kids at kindy?
Do you think starting them too early would mean that they would get sick of it by the time they go to school, or do you think it would be good to start around 3? Ohhh what to do ( i think im just scared i dont know what i would do without her! LOL)

i dont think they get sick of it casue it does change when they get a bit older and becomes more focussed. gabriel started at 3yrs 6 mths i think and toby had just turned 3 when he started.

Charlotte started for 2 mornings a week (9-12) at 2 years, 6 months. She moved up to 3 mornings 3 months later and then started 5 mornings a week when she was 3 1/2.

Brenna - we are in Morrinsville - Rushton Road Kindy, they take them from 2.5 years here, places are available on an age basis rather than a first in first served basis.
Looks like everyone is different from when their kids started. I have a couple of friends with children a little younger and they are starting begining of next year, which would be nice for my daughter to start with them as she plays with them all the time. Its just hard for me to let go i think and come to terms with the fact that she is getting older

My youngest started just before she turned 4 but that was because I was working full time and her carer couldn't get her to kindy. But once she started it she loved it!!
My other 2 started around 3 from memory.
Brenna - which kindys did you call. There are some out there taking them from 2.5yrs (even younger if toilet trained)

I just saw in another thread that aussiegirl lives in Hamilton and works at a kindy. Maybe PM her Brenna and ask if they take them earlier.....but I don't know which area she is in.

My eldest started as soon as he turned 2 and he loved it!! Now there are lots more kids in the area so the waiting list is longer, Leo is 2 1/2 and will either start near the end of this year or early next year. Good luck!!

I chose not to send my DD to kindy. She went to Playcentre instead. We started when she was about 10 months old and she went right though till the week before she started school. I feel she didn't miss anything by not going to kindy. Playcentre was awesome, she had all the same sorts of experiences there that other children had at kindy. Plus she made friends that shes still friends with now, 5 years on.

You can put her on a waiting list where you are living now and then when you know where you are moving to swap her to the waiting list at the nearest kindy there.
Zac has been on a waiting list at Botany since he was 2. We recently moved to Ellerslie and swapped his waiting list to a kindy in Remuera and he starts tomorrow...which I am quietly stressing about!!!
