Topic: What did you try different? Posted: 20 November 2011 at 10:23am |
Hi there, I am curious to find out what other ladies have done differently who may have suffered miscarriages but then went onto have a successful pregnancy.
I am really keen to hear of any litte or major things/changes whether it be from your doctor or naturopath or perhaps just something you "feel" may have helped.
My doctor and naturopath seem to have run out of ideas apart from stronger blood thinners and as I test negative for blood clotting disorders I am struggling to understand why they would push this.
Any help, ideas muchly appreciated.
Thanks,

Hey ScaredyCat
I think my situation may be a bit different because we knew what the issue was (luteal phase defect caused by low progesterone). I heard about Vitex which is a herbal product that increases progesterone.
The first time I started using it we got pregnant but the bottle said to stop taking it once pregnant. I did and miscarried. Started taking it again and this time when I got pregnant I continued to take the Vitex and ended up with our lovely little boy.
Fingers crossed you find something that works - it looks like its been a long hard road for you.

For me I went to a naturopath & he gave me supplements which to me I think helped me stay pregnant.
I believe I was lacking in those minerals to hold a pregnancy past a sort period of time.

Thanks ladies for your replies, I have been consulting a naturopath too, so hopefully between the doctor and the naturopath they can come up with something that works!

The only difference in this pregnancy was that I was taking progesterone.

My MC's where classed as "unexplained" by the specialist, but I was working with a naturopath as well and with her I did a few things the major things were....
Took the low dose asprin, high levels of folic acid and also these natural (mushroom type) pills from my naturopath for my immune system as I had high ANA levels (which the specialist said had no impact on MC's but my naturopath & info on the net kind of said different). Also I was heaps fitter comming into this pregnancy than I had been in a long long time so who knows that could of helped.
I was actually taking to my naturopath about this the other day and really there is no way of knowing what specific thing actually made the difference or if this time would of worked no matter what I was doing. It really is so hard but I honestly think feeling like you are doing "something" helps ou feel less helpless and has to be better for the stress etc.

Good luck scaredy cat. Hopefully there'll be a solution for you this time?
I was like Didi, was it the minerals that worked or just would it have worked anyway? But for #2 child we did the same thing for 15months & the 16th month something different, so when the same thing was happening again for this time around, I got on to the naturopath faster & basically the same things worked again.

My journey for #2 has been a long one full of a lot of disappointment and heartbreak and I am at the point where I believe in my case if its meant to be it will happen.
DD was a honeymoon baby, concieved when I was paying no attention to my diet and drinking a lot and I know that I am very lucky to have her. I have been TTC #2 for 3 years and in that time I have had every test imaginable, cut down on caffine, changed my diet, done accupuncture, limited alcohol and I have had four m/c and two unsuccessful rounds of IVF.
This is such an emotional journey and my heart goes out to you and wish you all the best.

I started taking 5mg of folic acid, low doses of aspirin (think 75mg a day from memory??) and the day I got my BFP (14DPO) I started on progesterone pessaries. The girls were my first successful pregnancy, after 4 m/c, including 3 in the 18 months prior to conceiving the girls. I am dreading TTC again in case it all happens again.
