Topic: Number 2s Posted: 24 February 2006 at 1:02pm |
My son is wearing undies and has no problems with wees, he tells us when he wants to go toilet and is very good but he won't do number 2's and he holds on and holds on and then eventually when he can't hold on any longer goes in his undies. We have tried a few different things but to no avail, any suggestions?

It's fairly common. Angie did that for a little while. Bribery is always good. How about a little present or $2 to spend at the $2 shop on what ever he wants and have it where he can see it when he is going to the toilet.
It does pass and it doesn't pay to make too much of a big deal out of it. Maybe blame the silly poo for coming out into his knickers instead of the toilet so that your son doesn't feel like it is his fault.

Hey, we are having the same problem with our son, although we do have good days (sometimes). We have tryed the whole sticker chart thing and when he gets 7 stickers he gets to open a toy that my mum brought for him but he gets to about 5 stickers then starts doing it in his undies again. When he goes to kindy he is fine and goes on the toilet so don't know why he can't do it at home. I know how you feel it can be so fastrating, maybe we just have to be patient.
Good Luck.

i have the same problem with my daughter, shes 3 and a half and goes #1s on the toilet with no trouble but for #2s she insists on wearing a nappy...ive tried star charts, bribery even decorating the toilet ( should really take that tinsel off from around it) and declining her plea for a nappy-however if i do this she just holds it in and waits until i put her nappy on her for bedtime.
Also it annoys me cos when she goes to stay with her dad and stepma in wellington shell wear a nappy for them

I never had that prob with Maya, but I do remember my Mum (who TTed 4 of us) saying that it takes kids longer to 'get' the whole #2 thing than the wees thing.
I don't know what advice to give, as it sounds like you have tried lots of things already, but I guess just constant praise when he gets it right, and maybe Melz idea of blaming the 'silly poos' so that he doesn't feel so pressured about it being his fault?

We found Jayden was the same, until one night he did it at a party and we forgot to bring a change of clothes, so he had to go home and change missing out on the fun for over half an hour, and we have never looked back.
