my boys are starting to really p*#s me off with meal times as they have started to delibrately(sp?) throw their food on the floor - esp keegs whos my skinny boy and i want to get food into him. they are normally good eaters jaidyn more so but i find it extremely frustrating cooking them a nice meal to see most of it chucked on the floor then having to clean that up. my friend said to ignore them when they do it but i am now thinking that its naughty behaviour that needs to be dealt with - just not sure how or if time out is the answer and if so whether to go back to the remains of their meal after.
any ideas please
Marlene

time out yes,
going back to the meal yes
even better - make them clean up with you - they'll soon tire of it...
remind then food is for eating, if they want to throw maybe they should eat all their dinner then once they're finished they can go and practice throwing with ta ball instead... tells them what they should do with food, and gives them incentive to finish so they can go play... distracts them from the behaviours too. just ideas... lolol..

the funny thing about the little toads is that they eat fine at other places
its seem that with keegs hes thrwing food hes not keen on - jaidyn is willing to try anything and usually likes it whereas keegs is fussier and by the time hes got to the throwing stage hes prob had 5min of just moving the food round the plate. i have tried the "just 2 more mouthfuls" thing but doesnt seem to work too well unless i bribe him with something cool he wants to do. Even then its hit and miss if the bribe will work.
Anyway will give your ideas a try Janine and heres hoping. Its just so frustrating as Keegs used to be such a great eater...oh well

i have been noticing that a lot of the two year olds are displaying similar behaviour. throwing food (mine started recently too), deliberate acts of vandalism, being nasty to people, hitting.

obviously it is them testing the boundaries but i also think too that it is lack of communication skills - they dont know how to say what bothers them so resort to throwing etc.

When my boy throws food i tell him no we dont throw food, if you dont want it say "No thanks mummy". i am hoping he will get it one day, i also get him to pick it up.

gee isnt two a lovely age...
