Specialist Appointment

Bit of background info, #1 happened rather quickly, infact first night of unprotected sex!! Have now been ttc #2 for 16 months and have been seeing a natural fertility specialist for 6 months and having fortnightly accupuncture. While both have helped my cycle, they certainly have not fixed my problems.

I have had all the blood tests through my doc, DH has done SA and I have been charting for nearly a year. I clearly have a LP defect normally only 8 days on average, but have a normal length cycle of around 26-32 days depending when I ovulate. Will he put me on clomid, does clomid fix LP defects?

What can we expect from the appointment? More tests? or will he be able to pinpoint and treat my problem because its very clearly obvious what is wrong and all the info I can provide him eg charts etc??

Any advice and experiences appreciated!

They will do some more tests, just to give you a base line. However I found Fertility Associates to be great about going through your options regarding what it might mean if the different tests come back showing a problem.

Clomid causes you to ovulate. It sounds like you are already ovulating so it could be something else.

At least a specialist would be able to give you answers and put your mind at rest. It can be expensive for some to see a specialist, but I think it is worth it for piece of mind. I also think you can get the appointment free through your GP but I am not sure how long that will take. We just went straight down the road of booking an appointment and paying for it because I couldnt wait.

I posted about similar a few weeks back - LPD is usually about some kind of progesterone deficiency, and can actually occur in the follicular phase.
If the eggs aren't best quality, the corpus luteum can break down, or not maintain the progesterone levels for the full 14 days (or whatever). Clomid hyperstimulates the eggs, I think more than one can pop off in ovulation, and is generally thought to improve things this way. Although I don't really completely understand, as the way I see it, if the eggs aren't of good quality in the first place, how can a drug make it so?
This is just my rudimentary understanding of this though, from reading and asking questions.
Although there's some controversy as to the efficiency of progesterone supplements (some doctors don;t believe this works as a treatment), I have heard that tablets and creams are not as effective as pessaries.
