Topic: chromosome translocations Posted: 15 December 2009 at 12:57pm |
wasn't really sure where to post this but thought this looked like a good place to start.
we've had 3 m/cs and after numerous blood tests recently discovered that I have Chromosome Translocations.
Is there anyone else out there that has the same genetic issues?? I'd love to hear some good luck stories.
We've been told we can keep trying naturally (odds are we'll have a good pregancy at some stage but the downside is theres an increased risk of more miscarriages) or look at Preimplantion Genetic Diagnosis (IVF with gene testing). Meeting with the genetic specialists to get the statistics and low-down on what this all means, but like I said, I'd love to hear some good news stories.
cheers
Karen

I'm really sorry to hear that Karen, while on one hand it must be good to know why it's happening it also sounds like one of the hardest to correct.
I've followed you down the the path of the third m/c and am myself going ot the recurrent m/c clinic next year... I hope that either naturally or via IVF your fourth is successful.
Good luck.

Hi, Karen, my Husband and I will be doing our first round of IVF with PGD (Preimplantation Genetid Diagnosis) in April 2010, there is a 50/50 chance of our children inheriting a heart issue. I have started another link earlier labelled PGD is you want to read more about my story.
This process for us all got started off by going to a genetic specialist, where they tested my husbands DNA and found the gene mutation that causes the problem. Good luck with your appointment and just ask any question.
What City is the genetic specialist in that you are seeing?
Regards Alison

M2Bee - sorry to hear you've been down the same path. Fingers crossed the recurrent m/c clinic (which is where we went) can give you some answers.
Alison - we've been referred to the genetic specialists at Greenlane Hospital (in auckland). No idea yet when the appt is but already I have hundreds of questions for them.
