I was reading my new copy of littlies mag and there is an article about this... i will just type it out here for you.

The Nurture foundation wants to find 300 couples with unexplained fertility to take part in a new study.   A trial is underway to determine whether Fallopian Tube Sperm Infusion (FSP), a process thought to yield higher pregnancy and live birth rates, should replace the current technique, Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI) as the standard insemination method. To find out more or take part contact Nurture on phone 09 373 7599 (extn 89487) or email: j.falkiner@auckland.ac.nz

thought it might be of interest to some of you.

Hi GandT I saw that article too. We have been trying for a year with unexplained infertility so I emailed them last night. Still waiting to hear back. Will keep you posted.

Just a quick update as I heard back from them today and they sent me the following email............

unfortunately the trial is not available in Christchurch at present, although your specialist may be happy to to offer the treatment to you if you discuss it with him/her.

The trial is treating women with unexplained infertility who are undergoing a treatment of IUI (intrauterine insemination), not IVF. This is when the sperm are collected into a thin tube and inseminated into your uterus through your cervix - it saves them having to encounter cervical mucus and an 8 hour swim. The trial is using a different catheter to the one normally used so they get pushed up further into your fallopian tubes rather than just left in the uterus.

I'll attach the information sheet about it for you to read.

I'm sorry we can't offer it to women in Christchurch at present, if your specialist thinks you should try IUI, the cost of the new catheter adds about $80 to their fee.

Feel welcome to contact us if we can be more help to you, kind regards, Jan Falkiner (research nurse)

She did attach an info sheet but it realy didn't have any other info on it.

Oh well I guess it will be of use to some lucky couples up north!
