Topic: Do you let your toddler Posted: 17 January 2007 at 2:51pm |
sit on public toilet seats? I know they are gross and everything, and if I have to use one I always squat (tmi lol).
But now Ella is in knickers, she needs to go quite often. I sit her on the toilet and she holds onto the edge, I always make sure there is soap in the dispenser to clean her hands afterwards..
Just wondering what others do? There is no way I'm carrying the toilet seat around now.

I dont have this prob yet as Zaara is still in nappies. But in all honesty I would not let Zaara sit on the PTS.
...Like you I squat and If I have to then I lay layers of Toilet paper on the sit (covering it completely) and then sit down.
I have this thing about germs and . I do however have those small cans of sterilizer that I use to spray and wipe the toilet sit ...its my sanity saver!!
You can buy these at any pharmacy. I also carry a liquid Soap thingie with me when ever I am going on the road/beach etc...as most of them dont have soap dispensers. ....I know I am a bit weird!

Purell is my friend too, but just as an aside, the loo's in the parent's rooms are often a bit cleaner, and sometimes they have little kid's loo's too!

I do let him go on toilets but if i can i wipe it. I would rather he sat on the toilet than wet himself which could set him back with the whole TT. Purell is a good idea.

I give the seat a quick wipe-over and let her (or me) sit on it. I've actually found the public toilets near our frequent shopping areas pretty good for cleanliness, dunno what I'd do if it looked unserviced

Sometimes I wipe with toilet paper... but that doesn't do much... I'm not too bothered by it. I'd definitely make sure she had a bath that night tho!

I don't have a toddler, but I figured that nobody ever sits on public toilet seats anymore, so they're probably bloody clean! But if they look dirty, then well I won't sit on them..

I bought some purell but keep forgetting to use it.. oh well, I'm sure our parents let us sit on toilet seats when we were young

Andrew stands when we are in town - so much easier.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

aparently on that myth busters on discovery they tested various places for bacteria etc... and the toilet seat came up the cleanest of all! when you think about it its only really skin on skin contact unless someone misses the bowl and they are generally cleaned regularly. I wouldnt recommend eating off them though but thought that was interesting. Also the whole 5 second rule about food on the ground and as it turns out there are as many germs picked up after 2 seconds as there are after 10 so there goes that theory.
Hey becks just out of curiosity what age did Andrew start standing up? Im trying to figure out when to teach Kobe that, at the moment he wont have a bar of standing

Unless it's really gross (like some of those seedy beach toilets) I let her sit on it. She's got to be exposed to germs at some point,a nd now, like Meow's Ella, I'm not even allowed to be in the toilet with her.
If the toilets too gross I don't muck around with wiping it etc, she just pees behind a bush - that'll learn them to keep their toilets clean!

lol Emma, I've taught Ella to squat and pee and I let her do that if there is bush nearby and no toilet.. trouble now is that she thinks it's normal to do it like that and asks to do wees on the grass wherever we are
