So Im a total book worm Ive been reading TTC Prep books since the beginning of last year (we started trying April) Now I'm onto pregnancy books. So heres a list of what Im reading and LOVING.
TTC
The Natural Way to Better Babies - Francesca Naish and Jan Roberts - This book is fantastic for going through all the things you need to TTC with lots of details about achieving healthy babies. I loved it for having a "plan" for getting ready. It meant I wasn't just sitting twiddling my thumbs waiting I actually had things to do. And it really helped me form healthy habits so when I do get pregnant Im ready to go and don't have to make too many changes to my diet as Im already weaned off caffeine, sugar, grains and alcohol.
Spirt Babies: How to communicate with the child you are meant to have - Walter Makichen - This book was so amazing. You need to keep an open mind as its really spiritual (not religious) I loved it. It really spoke to me and made me feel so comforted. It would be a really good read for those of you who have had MC's or have been TTC for a long time. I had a termination when DH and I first moved to NZ, we were both unemployed and had a mortgage to pay which we were paying out of our savings and neither of us had a job opportunity in sight and so we decided with a million tears and very heavy hearts that we couldn't continue with the pregnancy. Reading this book i ugly cried the whole way through. with relief, with hope with love and it offered me so much comfort.
PREGNANCY
Up The Duff - Kaz Cooke - this if funny and informative. It is australian so a little different to the NZ system in some places but the writing is easy to read, it follows a week by week format that makes fun of a lot of the trickier parts of pregnancy. Its very "normal" i say this cause i would class myself on the crunchier side of granola (total hippy) so its more mainstream which is nice.
Im Not Fat Im Pregnant - Jaquie Brown - I adore this book. Jaquie is so funny and I read it long before even TTC, Im now re reading it while TTC. I picked it up one day in my lunch break and before I knew it I was spending every lunch break reading it in the book store. Eventually I gave up and brought it and Im so glad I did. Its very kiwi, very down to earth, and very informative.
Well Adjusted babies - Jennifer Barham Floreani - I haven actually finished reading this as I had to wait a while while it got printed. This is another Australian book thats really holistically based and came highly recommended by my naturopath group on Facebook. When someone asked on there for book recommendations this one came recommended by everyone!!! So of course I had to get it. It covered TTC and pregnancy. Also my chiropractor has it in her office and I highly rate her opinion on everything.
The Nourishing Traditions book of baby and child care - Sally Fellon Morell - This is another book I've had a long time and I really highly rate it. Its full of advice for TTC and for pregnancy. It offered a lot of recipes and a lot of natural options for all childhood ailments and pregnancy conditions. It gives options for if breastfeeding doesn't work out so you don't have to use commercial formula. Im sure this will be my bible through pregnancy and beyond! It is very naturally based and a little crunchy for those more mainstream mums. But its perfect for us hippy mums!!!
Some other books I have but haven't yet read
The Natural Way to a Better Pregnancy - Francesca Naish and Janette Roberts
Healthy Body Better Birthing - Francesca Naish and Janette Roberts
I will also buy Francesca Naishes book on breastfeeding when I get a little closer to the time.
What books have you loved during your pregnancy?
Also another thing I don't want to forget is some of the books on actually how to care for a baby. I would love some recommendations on this, Im the first in my family to have a baby and actually have spent very little time around babies. I would love some practical books on sleep, breastfeeding, and all of those things that babies need :)
