Good Afternoon all!
Hope you're all having a nice weekend.
Just a question my midwife measured me (using a tape measure from pelvic bone up) at my last visit saying I was showing at 37 weeks (im 36 weeks) and said to lay of unhealthy food \ junk food etc (which I havn't been eating alot of just happened to mention we had fish n chips one night last week)
This has made me a bit nervos. Does this mean I'm going to have a big bubba?
As I had a scan at 34 weeks saying bub was approx 5.6 lbs.
Thanks in advance :)

Hi Hadlam
I'm 35 weeks tomorrow and the last two visits I've had to my midwife after she's measured me had baby off the "average growth rate chart" lol... I'm quite a small person with a tall, broad shouldered husband, so I too got a bit worried. I actually went for a growth scan last week and they were able to give me an estimate of babies size - he was in the 77% percentile, and about 6.6lbs... so I'm not too worried now.. Maybe you could ask for another growth scan?
Women have big babies all the time, so I guess we just have to think positive and tell ourselves we can do it too!!! (if that ends up being the case)
Good luck :)

Hi, I've been measuring 3 weeks ahead since about 28 weeks.. but growth scsn puts baby in perfect percentile. I think it can depend on baby's position etc, so I wouldn't be too worried. If its only one week difference, I very much doubt bubs will be any bigger than normal :)

I wouldn't worry too much, it could just be the way the baby is lying that made the measurement large. Also not even that bad being 36 weeks and measuring 37 weeks.
Also if you get a growth scan be aware that this late stage in pregnancy there is a large margin of error...some say up to 500g in either direction!
I would try not too worry about what you are eating too much, I find it's something most MWs and docs jump on when it comes to baby size. Just be sensible.
Babies in general are getting bigger due to lifestyle factors and general diet... 20 years ago 7pounds was considered at the large end of the scale now is probably more towards the smaller end, certainly was in my ante natal coffee group!

Don't worry about a week ahead, it could be that bubs is still quite high in the pelvis too, as long as you're eating normally then don't worry. I lived on KFC chips & Pot gravy and had a tiny baby so it's not always food that causes bigger babies.
They say they usually gain 1/2 a pound a week so at 40 weeks bubs will probably be 9lb so a normal size.

I ate junk all through my first pregnancy and had 9lb 4oz, 2nd time around I was really careful with what I ate, lived on healthy food and smaller servings only to end up with 10lb 7oz. So I don't believe that what you eat has much effect on baby's birth weight, after all they only take what they need, right? I measured 40 weeks at 32 with the 2nd pregnancy . Don't worry about having a big baby, they're easier to get out when you've got something to push and gravity to help

And at the end of the day, head circumference is the only measurement you really need to worry about ;-) Just joking (but only partly). I wouldn't worry too much about it either. big baby is a healthy baby and one that has much more coping ability for any slight issues during birth.

Both my babies measured 3+ weeks behind dates in the last six weeks or so. I had to have several growth scans each time - which always estimated very very large babies. The truth was actually somewhere in the middle with slightly larger than average babies at birth. The first time I was really worried (first about him being too small and then second about him being so big!!). The second time around I just figured it must be how I carry.

I have incredibly large babies and the one time my mw measured my tummy like that I was measuring bang on dates - I ended up with 11lb+ babies so I would take it with a grain of salt. As long as you are healthy and have a healthy diet not much you can do about how you measure!

Hi All,
Thanks for all your input about my measurements. Had this weeks midwife appointment today and I'm measuring at 36 weeks so it does jump around a bit as suggested :)
Hope u have a nice weekend :)
