Hi im just really wanting to get some advice from other mums who have hd this as my Dr seems to be absolutly useless and i cant get in to see my midwife untill next week. I had a smear done the day i found out i was expecting and ive been told i have cancer forming cells on my cervix (HPV1). Which has given me bacterial vaginosis. The nurse at the doctors clinic has told me i will need to be treated before the baby is born as it can cause problems to the baby during birth but my doctor has told me that no i wont ill just need to have a biopsy once the baby is born. im so confused as i had this with my first also and was treated during pregnancy because again i was toldit couls affect the baby during birth. Has any one else had this problem and is my Dr wrong??? please help stressed and worried mum

I'm a bit confused. I've had abnormal smears for years..

HPV is a virus.. CIN is the cancer cells which is expressed as CIN1 (low grade), CIN2, CIN3 etc.

I've not had experience with vaginosis, but I have HPV and my CIN1 and CIN2 cells caused no issues to my kids and they typically leave those alone until baby is born because messing around with the cervix can cause miscarriage. And those are low grade cells which are only precancerous so not urgent.

I have had abnormal smears since my first one when i was 21.. if your abnormalities are CIN1 often they do nothing as your body can sometimes fight of the low grade cells itself. you will just have to have regular smears for a while until you get 3 years of clear smears. (ive finally got the all clear yay! and had no treatment, it just all went away on its own.) thats what they did for me anyways. not sure about the bacterial vaginosis, i thought that was a completely different thing. i wouldnt get worried, HPV is a very very common thing, most sexually active women have it- its just whether it affects you or not. also, from a smear they can only tell that you have HPV..to get the true level of CIN you need a biopsy taken of your cervix (which they wont do while pregnant) and often that comes back clear despite the doctors diagnosis-(with me the docs thought i had CIN3 so sent me for a biopsy straight away but the biopsy showed none of the cells were cancerous and nothing further needed doing, i just needed yearly smears for ages to monitor it all.if they find actual cancerous cells they will remove them. so try not to panic, and wait and see what your doc says. sometimes those forms can be really confusing. x x im guessing the antibiotics will be for the bacterial vaginosis?? The antibiotics will have nothing to do with HPV or CIN as you can't treat either of those with antibiotics.
The antibiotics may be for the vaginosis or alternatively it sounds like the nurse might also be talking about group B strep which is routinely tested for with swabs. If positive people get treated with antibiotics before the birth as it can be dangerous to the baby.... that is what it sounds like the nurse is talking about. Maybe they have confused you by talking about different things? Or maybe they have confused themselves!

bacterial vaginosis IS treated with antibots either 3 pills all at once or aweeks treatment and is coursed by bacteria I think you have confused yourself with lots of information coming in at once maybe a sitdown with your doc is in order good luck and congrats on the peregnecy
