We are planning to birth at Wellington Hospital and our midwife is encouraging me to transfer to Keneperu after the birth (assuming there’s space available out there).

Has anyone done this? How did you find it? Do they supply cloth nappies out there?

Thanks

Hi Koromiko. We transferred to Kenepuru 3 years ago after delivering at Wellington. (We actually laboured at Kenepuru too but had to transfer to Wellington for a ventouse delivery, but that's another story!)

Our daughter was 4 hours old when we left Wellington hospital, it was quite surreal driving ourselves out to Porirua with our tiny brand new baby! I found my stay at Kenepuru really good, I think I was the only one there at one stage and the midwives were really supportive and lovely.

They supplied cloth nappies when I was there, but that was 3 years ago so not sure if they still do. They also supplied maternity pads. I need to check these things at my MW appointment tomorrow as it won't be too long before I will be delivering and staying there again!

Good luck with your baby, I hope it all goes well for you

Thanks Janie. I just asked my midwife to check and they do still provide cloth nappies. I think we will give it a go, though my partner is a bit freaked out at the thought of driving us out!

Good luck with your baby too

I transferred out to Keneperu after having DS2 in March as there were no beds available at Wellington. I didn't particularly enjoy having to drive bubs out (plus we hadn't expected to go so hadn't actually put the capsule in the car and DH had to leave us and go home to get it).

It was great at Keneperu though and having experienced both Wellington and Keneperu now I would ask to go out there again. The midwifes were really friendly and not too busy. You get your own room with TV etc. and own bathroom.

Kenepuru is lovely - DD1 was born there. I had to have DD2 at Wellington due to induction but transferred to Kene 2 days later. They were really great and sorted out DD2's feeding issues which Wellington hadn't picked up on

We had to get a taxi as DH can't drive and I'd had a c-section.

They provide maternity pads, but not sure about cloth nappies - i used disposables. It is a much nicer atmosphere than Wellington.
