Topic: Confusion over EDD Posted: 25 May 2012 at 12:01pm |
I've been given three different dates by three different people! Maybe someone here could help clear things up for me...?
LMP - Tues 6th March
Age of our baby at the first scan - 7w 4d, taken on 05/05
Age of our baby at the second scan - 10w 2d, taken 24/05
My doctor told me the 12th of Dec, the first scan indicated the 4th of Dec, and last night I was told the 17th - I'm so confused!

At 7 weeks there wouldn't be much to measure.
Was your 2nd scan the 1st trimester screening?
I had my screening at 11w 6d. They said they take a measurement from babies head to bum and calculate the date based on the size of the baby. They beleive that this is the most acurate measurement. The sonographer told me that if their dates are very different from the calcuation from the last period they use their dates.
Did you say at your last scan that the dates differ from the last time it was worked out?

The 2nd scan was the 1st tri screening, I thought I was 12w 2ds into my pregnancy.
Baby measured 8.3cm (so tiny!!), and yes I told them the 17th was very different from what I had been told... she seemed pretty sure she was right though.

That 2nd scan is going to be more accurate than going from your LMP because of different ovulation dates and cycle lengths etc. Very early scans can also be inaccurate since they're so small and sometimes hard to get good measurements. I'd go off the 2nd scan dates. Not that it means very much in the long run but gives you somewhere to aim for.

My SIL is a radiologist (Dr who reads the scans) and she said the 12 week (or there abouts) is the most accurate measure. I had a dating scan (7-8 weeks with DS and it was totally wrong!).

yep another here with different dates. LMP date - 3rd September (this was with #1). at 20 wk scan - 13th september. subsequently realised that yes, I ovulate late in my cycle. But also there's just variation in progress with babies.. take the later date, is my advice, whatever it is!

With my eldest I was given
31st May (LMP)
1st June (scan at 18 weeks, this was 11 years ago)
and 7th June (scan at 36 weeks)
I chose the 31st,because it was the first one,in other words I said that was my due date and decided that once it had passed I was overdue, haha.
My daughter must have thought the 7th was hers because she came out on the 8th of June,BUT judging by her appearance she was a couple of weeks early,so who knows!

i was always told the earlier scan is the most accurate... especially if you have them that early.

Earlier scans do tend to be the most accurate. However you can also have lower accuracy if they are too early!
Part of the reason they do the NTT scan at 12 weeks is that its also one of the most accurate time for dating. So take the scan closest to that time over any later scans!!
