Topic: 2 quick questions re labour/birth Posted: 16 February 2012 at 7:42pm |
When I had DS he wasn't engaged until I had already been in labour for ages and my waters were artificially broken during labour too.
I am now 38 weeks preg with DS2 and at my appointment yesterday my OB told me that he is already engaged and ready to go. She thinks he might come a bit early.
To those who have had babies already, how long was it between them being engaged and going into labour? Can they un-engage??
Also, did you have any prior warning that your waters were going to break? I have another week at work and am terrified it's going to happen while I'm there (or even after that, while out in public) which would be sooooo embarrassing!!
Thanks :)

DS engaged at about 34/36 weeks and came at 40+5.
This baby is borderline engaged now.
My waters broke completely out of the blue, I woke up in the middle of the night to pee and as I was getting back in to bed I got the pop and gush of water.

Yep, my DD was engaged at about 36 weeks and was told she might come early and she was 40+5 as well! I was waddling for ages.

I think mine all engaged progressively from about now, this one is the step up from being engaged but has only just turned from breech.
Water broke completely out of the blue with #2 at 39 weeks, #1 waters were broken late into labour, which started the day after I finished work just before 39 weeks lol

DS engaged and unengaged repeatedly over 3 -4 weeks as he turned from head down to breach and back again. He wasn't engaged 2 days before he was born. Had no idea that my waters were going to break, went for a 2am loo run and couldn't figure out how I could possibly pee for that long.

#1 bobbed up and down and waters didn't break until I was 10cm and ready to push.
#2 was engaged from 35 weeks and came at 38+2 - waters breaking 14 hours before he came.

I've been 4/5 engaged since 33 weeks with this bub, and am currently 2 days late and showing no signs of getting her out any time soon (grrrrrr).
DD1 engaged during labour, induced at 42 weeks. I don't think it really means that much tbh. Not sure about waters because mine were broken for me last time. Will let you know if anything happens this time though! And while you're at work just make sure you always have a full cup of cold coffee to conveniently spill lol

Thanks everyone - glad I didn't get my hopes up for an early/ontime birth!
@troutpout - I heard of a woman who carried a small jar of pickles in her handbag so that she could drop it if her waters broke in public and blame the mess on that instead :)
