Just one week into finding out I am pregnant, and my sleep is so broken. I am shattered. I have so much going around in my head - none of it baby related. Tossing and turning? Oh yeh. It feels like i am roll onto one side, 10 seconds later I am back on the other!!

Is it true that you shouldnt sleep on your back or front? Or even lie on your back and front. How on earth do we do our exercises without lying on our back or front?! Something about lowering the blood pressure and cutting off blood supply to the baby. IS this just more scaremongering??? What on earth did women do 1000s years ago without all this knowledge.

I wouldn't be too worried about sleep positions n the early days, so long as you're comfy. Once you have a big bump in the way you'll find you can only really settle on your side anyway. I am a tummy sleeper, and both times have stayed that way til my belly was too big

Ditto troutpout, don't worry how you sleep until you can no longer sleep that way comfortably. I hate sleeping on my sides but now that is the way I prefer, I was either front or back up til prolly 20 weeks.

Sleep which ever way you can

Third the advice on the sleep positions - your body is excellent at letting you know how you should be sleeping by making it basically impossible anyway

On the other hand, yes, welcome to the world of pregnancy. I've said both times that I can't wait till the baby's born so I can sleep! Of course, it's rather, um, broken sleep, but it's bliss while you're sleeping at least.

I found that I had broken sleep for the first two or three weeks after our BFP as I was excited/petrified and found it hard to relax. And then when I could relax I was getting up 3 times a night to pee.

Then came the second trimester and I was sleeping all the way through most nights.

I've generally always been a side sleeper but until my belly got too big I would sleep kind of on my front/side.

You don't have to worry about sleeping on your back until you're much much further along.

That early pregnancy insomnia sucks for sure, I forgot that about being pregnant last time! Mine is getting better now thankfully.

I"m early days too and sleep is TERRIBLE! I've put it down to quite hot nights but I think it's a combo of sore boobs, getting up to pee a few times and general restlessness. Glad 2nd trimester should be better!

Yes funny I too forgot the insomnia you get in the first trimester. I do recall 2nd trimester was much kinder to the body.

I think that's motherhood all over - you're meant to forget previous pregnancies... otherwise we would never do it again LOL

I feel your pain on the insomnia - I have it too. I have no trouble going to sleep but if I wake in the night (hello - every night to go to the bathroom!!) it takes me about 2 hours to get back to sleep.

Next week I am hoping to walk DD1 to school just about every day, now that we are back into the routine. I really hope that will help.
