Hi,
I am 8 weeks pregnant with my second baby and currently living in Melbourne, however we are moving back to NZ at the end of march when I will be 19 weeks and will almost definitely be living in the Wairarapa by the time baby is due. Can anybody recommend me a good midwife out that way? And also, what is the hospital like for giving birth? I had a natural birth at a birthing centre with my first, and would like something similar with this baby. Any light you could shed would be muchly appreciated as feeling a bit overwhelmed with the move and now trying to sort this out as well!!!
Thanks!!

Um, the Wairarapa is a pretty huge area!! I can recommend some good ones up Tararua way, and know of some who deliver in Masterton hospital, but that's not much use if you were thinking more Martinborough or somewhere?

As far as I know, there is only Masterton Hospital, Dannevirke Birthing Centre, or Palmy Hospital. Although I guess if you were in Southern Wairarapa, you could also have Wellington options. I chose a home birth, for what that's worth.

Thanks so much for your reply!
We are thinking South Wairarapa...prob Featherston or Martinborough.
So maybe Hutt could be an option? Not sure if I have the confidence for a home birth, but could be an idea that grows on me!

If you decide on the hutt, I have an amazing MW, Judy Slankard, although I'm not sure how that would work for post birth care? Best of luck!!

If you are moving to the Wairarapa it would be Masterton hosp so you would need a midwife based around there.

No idea on recommendations though sorry

A friend of mine is the local childbirth educator. Admittedly she deals with Tararua area, but Eketahuna-based mums often use Masterton midwives so she's familiar with most of them, and last time I asked (about a year ago) she said there weren't any great natural birthing MWs based in Masterton at the moment. I went with a Palmy based one. I do know one southern Wairarapa mum who used an OB in the hutt so I guess it's an option?
