i'm also from out of town, though been in welly a while now. i reckon when you're not from an area it's harder to make friends there.

You'll get a 2nd time mum's PIN group from plunket.

I've heard good things about mothers network (though I've never been)

Have you joined you 'due in' thread? i've started to meet up with the other wellington mothers from my due date thread.

In Porirua there is music and kindy gym at the Te Rauparaha Arena. They have other kids things too, but I've only been to the kindy gym DS2 loves it. Have a look on the porirua council website for details. Not sure how easy it is to make "friends from it" I only went a few times before going back to work full time. But everyone seemed chatty and there were lots of 1st timers willing to chat.

Theres also several mainly music groups, probably worth trying a couple to see which one suits you.

Playcenter might also be a good place, not sure where they are near you, but when I lived in the hutt we had a wonderful group of mums at ours. I haven't joined again tho since moving to porirua.

I was going to tell you about Kindy Gym too. My 3 year old LOVES it. It's cheap and a great way for kids to burn off some energy.

Ask your local library too as they often run music and story telling sessions.
