I hadn't given mine a second thought, but had a work mate ask yesterday if I'd packed mine... I'm hoping for a home birth but understand a bag should be ready just in case....

At how many weeks should we start sorting this? Would we not have time while in early labour to pack up a few bits?

Pack a bag and keep your camera charged and ready. I would do it at around 37 weeks to be sure as bubs can come 2 weeks early and still be 'on time'. I think the concern is that if you go for home birth and you have to go there in a panic you will forget all your stuff. It is a crazy time when you go into labour and your mind will be occupied and you will forget something and your partner or family will have to scurry around having to sort it out. It happened with my SIL went into labour and forgot the camera and hubby had to rush over in peak hour auckland traffic to get it to them in time. Not the kind of stres you want.

we are also planning a homebirth next time so have thought about still needing a bag for just incase.
i will prob pack a small sports bag with my clothes for after birth, babies clothes, toiletries and camera. the stuff will be used even if we dont go to hospital but will just be ready to grab and go if needed. if i do need to go to hospital i dont plan staying any longer than we have to.

You should definitly pack one for just in case especially since labour could be so short that you may not have time to pack before you go (although in my case, I had two days lol) I packed mine at 34 weeks, because you just dont know.

I've heard lots of people say things like "I thought I'd have time to do it before we left, but things happened too fast", or "Hubby was dashing round throwing things in bags, so not only did I not have his support he forgot the camera" and stuff like that, so I'd pack in advance just in case.

Or, in you're a bit anal like me, you pack in advance anyway because it's fun and exciting to be able to do something in preparation for Bubs being born

I say pack in advance too! My DD came at 37wks and she was my first. I was also out of town, so all DH had to do was grab my bag and baby's bag and hop in the car. He only had 2hrs to get to me and I was over an hour away.

I agree, start packing early. DS was born at 38 weeks and I was still in the process of packing. He was also a 4 hour labour so another one to say it all happened too fast lol...

Last time I packed my bag at 35/36 weeks. This time I haven't quite got there. I have a list that has everything that needs to go into the bags so if DP has to pack them he can use the list.

My biggest challenge is keeping DD out of them, everytime I do pack something she wants to pull it all out again
