Topic: When did you get your bump? Posted: 31 August 2011 at 11:13am |
I'm now just over 16 weeks and I still just look fat.
I started off with a bit of a spare tyre anyway and I have gradually grown out of my 12 jeans and can just about do up my 14 jeans.
I have no definiton of a bump, although if I press hard enough I can feel what I am assured is my uterus.
Is this normal?
Am I worrying abot nothing?

Yep perfectly normal especially if you are tall. I got married at 16 weeks when I had my first, I was imagining that I'd have this big bump but I don't think I got my bumps until well over 20 weeks. Felt a bit silly going for my 20 week scans lol

I got directed from my due in Feb thread to here and it's alleviated any concerns.
And I'm by no means tall, only 163cm, but I've always been on the large (size 14) size.

I'm tiny (5foot 1) and i didnt get passed the 'is she fat or is she hapu' stage till about 22-23w.
Yup felt like a real fraud at my 20w scan (was close to 21w) cause when i lay on the table my belly was still a bit hollow (you know how they do a great sucked in look when you are on your back?) - and I didnt feel ANY movements till about 21.5 weeks
I propperly 'popped' at about 25w in saying that my 25w 'bump' was the same size as a friends full term 'bump' so everyone is different :)

With my first, I've got photos at 15 weeks from my sisters wedding - I htought I looked pregnant at the time, but looking back, I just looked a bit fat
I think I was definitively pregnant the first time by about 20 weeks, this time a bit earlier.

With my second I was about 9 weeks when I got one
With my third, humpf, got my bump as soon as the line came up and its still there even though shes 6months old

Same as Kelly. I took ages to get a bump! When I went in for my scan at 18 weeks (not the 20 weeks one this was separate) the lady who called for me thought that I was a no show because she couldn't see any pregnant looking women in the waiting room.
I had a bump by Xmas so about 31 weeks but I didn't get much of a bump until maybe 25 weeks. I have a pic from 17 weeks and it kinda looks like a bump but no one thought I was pregnant or knew I definitely was until maybe 1-2 months before she arrived! I recall DPs nana saying at Xmas 'Oh you are pregnant!'

Absolutely dont worry at all.
Im 33wk tomorrow and I think I look preg but no one ever asks when Im due. Only close friends will comment on where is my bump or how tiny it is? MW got a bit of a shock at the 30wk visit as like you when I lie down it disappears. I had a OB visit last week 32wk and bubs is 4lb and perfect size/gestation and he measured the waters etc. Ive put on 16kg but very evenly all over my body. gone from size 10-14 in clothes. I dont need maternity clothes. This is my 3rd pregnancy and -im every so slighyly larger / weighing more this time (1-2kg) so yes to answer your question very very normal to not have any bump/preggy shape at 16weeks. Expect to feel at the "who ate all the pies stage" for a good 8-10 weeks yet if you are like me. check out the preggy tummy photos in the photo gallery

I was almost convinced I was getting my bump yesterday (at 8 weeks!)
I was thinking "wait!!! I'm not ready to tell evenone yet!"
But seems it was more to do with bloating
Can't wait til I have real bump

I remember being asked for the first time when I was due by a stranger at 16ish weeks, that's when I started to pop out and within a couple of weeks I looked full term. Not quite sure how that works!
At 19 or so weeks I was wearing a tight dress when mum walked in behind me, I turned to face her and she said "Holy cow, how far along are you again?"
I got big, fast.
On the other side of the bump spectrum, I recently met a girl who was 7 months at the time with a perfectly healthy little girl... And didn't even look fat. She looked like a thin woman who had just had lunch. I had to hold myself back from touching her tummy out of sheer curiosity!

Honestly with my 2nd I didn't get a "baby" bump till between 24 and 28 weeks, before that it just looked like extra round the middle :(
With my first I started out a bit skinnier so there was more definition but still no defined preggy belly till 20-24 weeks.

Ooh Kalimirella congrats!!
I'm 5'7/170ishcm and usually a size 8-10 and I didn't show with either of mine til 5.5/6 months along and I didn't actually pop til 3 days before DS1 arrived, though sooner with DS2. My second bump got bigger simply coz DS was high and poking out but yeah I stayed pretty small with both of them. Actually both times my mws were sure I'd be having tiny babies but nope both over 9 pounds so don't worry bout it
I did look fat though for like the whole 1st trimester both times :sigh: I remember we announced baby #2 and my sister was so shocked coz she'd been secretly thinking man someones gained some weight LMAO I was so upset when she blurted that out I started crying so everyone immediately started reassuring me that no no its ok now they actually know its coz of a baby then I *definitely* look pregnant suck-ups hahahahaha....

I'm 5'6" and a size 14. I wore my regular clothes throughout my entire pregnancy and on the day I gave birth DH said "you just look like you ate a few too may pies."
I had to convince the admitting ob/gyn that yes, bubs was full term....
ETA, DS was 55cm long and 3.2kg. He was just tucked up inside really well.

With my first I just looked a bit fat until well into my 20 weeks, at 23ish weeks I could still happily do up my slimfitting size 10 jacket (I was a size 10 to start with) and I didnt buy any maternity clothes the entire pregnancy yet the result is now a happy 4 year old....
(one of the ladies that I see every week at church commented to me after he was born that "I had only just found out you were pg the week before!")
Number 2 popped a lot earlier though and has been a heck of a lot harder (ok, still isnt) to un-pop!! Despite getting my abs back within 3 weeks or so of DS1 being born!!! Those poor muscles must have over-stretched...

Some people fill out a little more sideways than forward. I didn't fill out sideways at all it all went forward and from the back you couldn't even see I was preggo. A friend of mine fille out more sideways and didn't start sticking out the front in an obvious way until almost 30 weeks.
Everyones different but it usually happens about halfway through.

I am the same hight as you and was the same size too - my bump popped at about 19-20 weeks - before that it just looked like extra weight, espcially sitting!
