Topic: Doppler @11 weeks Posted: 30 March 2011 at 2:51pm |
So while I know it doesn't mean anything and is probably nothing, its still a bit disappointing and you can't help but feel that little niggle of uncertainty... just had midwife appointment at 11weeks2 days... she couldn't find/hear heartbeat with doppler.. she wasn't phased at all..
Just wondering how common it is for them not to be able to find it when its there?

Mine didn't even try looking for it until after I had my 12 week scan because she said that it just causes unnecessary worry if they can't find it, which is common...i think it was 14 weeks that she first tried? And got it straight away.

That's the reason why they don't like to use them before 12 weeks as its very common not to be able to find the heart beat, same thing happened to me and I was all worried for the following week until the 12 week scan that something had happened to our baby.

My midwife wouldn't even try. I dont get to hear it until I see her again at 16 weeks.
I have my scan before then.

The midwife tried (and failed) to find DD's heartbeat at 11ish weeks, but obviously all was well. I've heard it's not uncommon to delay trying until closer to 14 weeks too.
By the way, big congratulations .

Mine also failed at 11w4d, however I think I've got a little hider as the hospital MW couldn't find bubby at 15 weeks either!
Though later on my MW did find it which was good :D

Well, mine didn't hear Amelia's at 16 weeks, had to go for an emergency scan, was one of the scariest hours of my life, waitng for DH to get home so we could go.
She was fine, just hiding, but it was very scary.

With number 1 my mw tried around 11wks, though told me beforehand it is common not to be able to hear anything (I'd had 2 scans prior to this so I think would have been OK if we didn't hear anything). We did hear the hb and I do wonder if it was because I was a bit slimmer first time around. With pg number 2 & 3, MW didn't try until sometime after the first scan.

Nope MW couldnt hear DS's until about 15 weeks. I remember being at an appointed at 13 weeks and she tried for about 10 minutes but couldnt find it but she wasn't phased either. Totally normal

My mw didn't try listening to the heart beat until after the 12 week scan, she said baby is so small and has so much room to bounce around in their that it can be really difficult to pick up the heart beat and she didn't like women leaving upset and worried etc. She even warned me our 15 week appointment that we may not hear it as well.

My MW tried at around 11 & then again at 12 weeks and couldn't find it either time, I had my NT scan at 13weeks so could see all was well and then finally got to hear the hb at around 16weeks

...its when your MW clearly IS phased (mine tried not to show it,but she definitely was) that you get worried.
Both C and Ty I heard at 12 weeks,so to not hear her at 16 (16 and a half actually) I was freaking out
