Hi,
Does anyone know anything about the antenatal classes in the Porirua region? I am trying to decide between Mana Parent Centre (unfortunately my due date falls in the 2x Saturday class category instead of the shorter evening classes which has put me off a bit) or the free Kenepuru classes or the Tawa College night Childbirth classes. Anyone been to any of these and can recommend one or the other?
Thanks!

Last pregnancy i went to the Kenepuru classes - I was disappointed with them (despite being free). There was no coffee group set up and the classes took on a more or less lecture format, which got a bit preachy at times.
I also found that the class mainly consisted of very young parents ie. teenagers - me and DH are both in our 30s and found we had little in common with the other participants.
For these reasons i have signed up to do antenatal classes again with the Parents' Centre classes at Kandhalla - mainly cos i want to get a coffee group out of it and i am probably going to have to go to the bulk of them alone as DH will be at home with DD!
ETA - one good thing i got out of the classes was touring the maternity ward at Kenepuru hospital where i gave birth to DD
I've just finished the antenatal classes at Mana Parents Centre. I found them really good and not lecturing at all.
We have had our first coffee group set up for later in the month and am looking forward to it.
We chose to pay for classes as we wanted to have the coffee group encouragement and meet people in the same situation as us (late twenties/early thirties and interested in meeting other mums in the area).
We are having a tour of Kenepuru with our midwife and may do one of Wellington later on too.

We did our antenatal classes through Mana Parents Centre, I found them really good too. We have wonderful new friends from the classes who we meet up with regularly for coffee group or now the babies are older girls nights out :)
The classes at Tawa college are very good - 6 weeks antenatal, lots of freebies and the 2 postnatal classes become a coffee group. The classes are cheaper than most others as well. Highly recommend them.
Just wanted to add. If you are keen for other coffee groups, outside of AN class, head over to the 'meet up' thread on here. I 'try' and have regular coffee groups, though for some reason I have more success organizing them on FB.
