Topic: Visualisations and other IVF resources Posted: 25 February 2011 at 5:39pm |
Hi girls,
I decided to start a new post where hopefully everyone could share their favorite resources and tools that help them along on this journey of becoming a mum.
We have already discussed acupuncture in other topics, but what else do you find helpful right now, what tools do you have to help you relax and unwind, calm your mind and body, what helps you to feel that you will succeed and you will get your turn at sharing your exciting happy news with friends and family rather than feeling hurt and scared and discouraged?
What books, websites, breathing techniques, meditation, classes etc do you use and would recommend others to try?
One of my absolute favorites its this website http://www.circlebloom.com/ which has some lovely articles, freebies and a blog that I absolutely love. They have a free newsletter which I subscribe to and they also have a free podcast that you can download on iTunes called 'How Einstein Would Get Pregnant'. It is really fun and educational and empowering. They talk about all sorts of things related to fertility, have guest speakers, suggest relaxation techniques etc etc...I would highly recommend this! They also sell audio tracks on brain-body connection, programs aimed specifically for those trying to get pregnant naturally or going through IVF, those who have PCOS, programs for happy pregnancy and delivery and lots more. I was wondering if anyone else has come across these visualisation CDs before? I am very intrigued and eager to try the IVF one. There is a 15 minute session for each day of the cycle and it helps you to relax you mind and body and then talks you through what exactly is happening in your body each day of the cycle.... their philosophy is that the power of the mind is so great that it can heal your body and that you need to know exactly what SHOULD be happening in your body each day in order to bring the balance in. Anyway, you better read it on the website itself, you'll see for yourself whether it something that appeals to you.
I have downloaded their free mind-body relaxation program and it is amazing, i often listen to it at bed time and have no trouble falling asleep! I have also bought the program aimed for men in the TTC couple as often guys are left alone with no tools and support when going through this experience and for those of us having to do IVF often it is the male factor and we want our men to be as healthy and stress-free as possible, so I thought i'd get it for my DH to listen to and I actually listen to it myself, it's great!
C'mon, share your tips, other great sites and resources that might help us all.

Ah, I listen to Sue Dumais too, she is good! Did you know that if you subscribe to her free newsletter you get access to about 6 free meditation/relaxation mp3s too? I find them very good in helping me to relax and unwind.
The only thing I find is lacking from Sue's podcasts and a lot of other resources is the lack of focus on male infertility and how we (girls) are supposed to deal with it. Often those of us needing IVF and ICSI are doing this purely due to the MFI and to be honest I find myself feeling sorry for myself having to take the drugs/injections etc....knowing that I could've had a much easier conception journey if my DH's results were better.... so I wish there were some techniques/discussions regarding this on blogs and podcasts...
I also very much like the 'Infertility Cure' book by Randine Lewis, which is all about Acupuncture and Fertility. It's a very good read especially if you are doing/considering trying acupuncture. I just got it from the library again and making notes as I'm reading it.
What else? C'mon girls, share what other resources you are using :)

awesome, I didn't know that.... I will subscribe definitely. For me, it is a little bit different I suppose... for 3 whole yrs I blamed myself for not conceiving as having grade 4 endo, it basically wasn't until 2wks ago we found out about the MFI so I know this sounds selfish but I feel glad it's not just me... (if that makes sense ) but yes, I agree there should be more focus on MFI!!
I've just downloaded the circlebloom IVF - this will be interesting. Thanks so much for this recommendation.
Fertility Yoga by Brenda Strong - something I recommend if you like yoga.
You can buy the DVD on Amazon.
All the best SunshineWife

Thanks louloubell! I'm glad you've downloaded the IVF program. I was actually going to ask if anyone wanted to go halves...pay $35 each and get the download. I'm listening to the pre-cycle sessions now, they are great for making me fall alseep all calm and relaxed rather than lying in bed thinking about all the things that I need to do or might go wrong or might not work. Must stay positive and happy =)

Another great resource is the blog by Cindy Bailey author of Fertility Kitchen, I hope this link works http://www.fertilityauthority.com/blogger/1002118?page=2
She has been mentioned on Circle and Bloom podcast and has a website too, I really like the blog as it covers all the nutritional info both for women and men who are TTC. Makes me feel better when I have to remind DH that no he shouldn't have that coffee or junk food because he needs to be just as healthy to make a healthy embie! :)

Hey ladies, has anybody heard of or tried EFT emotional freedom technique? I've heard of it before and was quite interested in learning more, and have come across it again, this time EFT for fertility on Sue Dumais' website http://www.familypassages.blogspot.com/
Just thought I'd check if anyone here is familiar with what it is?

Here is what Sue says about it:
EFT utilises the meridian system which has been used in acupuncture for thousands of years. This modern development uses no needles, but instead a simple tapping technique on specific points on the face, upper body and hands while focussing on the emotional issue you want to work on and repeating words and phrases to help the process. The tapping on these special points balances the energy disruptions, releases negative emotions, and helps us back into a state of balance where we approach challenges with a rational and logical outlook. Unnecessary negative emotion which is unhealthy and damaging is resolved with EFT and replaced with more healthy emotions that benefit our physical and emotional well-being. The tapping can seem a little crazy at first, but once you get started you will soon understand how quickly it can reduce, and usually eliminate, intense negative emotions.
So how can EFT help with fertility issues? Anyone who has been trying for a baby for some time knows all about the rollercoaster of emotions involved. Common emotions include jealousy, anxiety, panic, fear, worry and guilt. And although you know that stress can further block your attempts at conception, it’s so difficult to switch off these emotions, especially when you get a negative pregnancy test, or your period shows up.
EFT is also a highly effective technique at removing psychological blocks to conception. Past traumas, memories, beliefs about pregnancy, birth and parenthood, can all affect how you truly feel about having a baby. You may feel ready to be a parent, but are there any hidden blocks that are stopping you from conceiving? EFT helps you identify and resolve these blocks, and move you towards having your baby.
