Topic: Spotting- does it stop? Posted: 20 February 2011 at 8:37am |
I am 11 weeks and last Tuesday started spotting dark brown blood. It got worse so I had a viability scan on Wednesday and everything looks fine.
Since then, the spotting has continued, it's not as bad as it was Tues/Weds but still noticeable when I wipe (TMI).
There have been a few threads on this but I was wondering if it was 'normal' to keep spotting for periods of time and if this was going to continue. Now that I have had the scan I'm not worried, just wondering whats going on.

Yup it can be normal.
I had 4 lots of spotting/bleeds in my last pregnancy and it continued for a week - 10 days afterwards each time.
It is not a nice thing to go through, even when you know bubs is ok. I hope it stops soon and stays away for you.

Thanks for that- I thought 6 days was a long time, 10 must have been hard.

Totally normal. I had a freak out at 5 weeks because I had constant light bleeding for 3 days. Turns out a lot of women get it.
It is only when it becomes heavy or is accompanied by stronger than normal cramps it is something to worry about

I have had bleeding with both my pregnacies, all before 6 weeks but, I bled pink/red then had scans to check it was ok and I bled brown for a few weeks afterwards as well.
Its so awful seeing it, but I just kept telling myself things were ok, had a scan and saw bubs etc

I had a bright red bleed at 10 weeks. Scan was fine. I spotted brown for 2 weeks afterwards.
My bleeding was caused by part of the placenta not quite joining to the wall of the uterus, causing a small clot, which came out.
At A & E here they have a room especially for women bleeding before 12 weeks, that's how common it is.
I think I would be concerned if the brown suddenly went bright red and heavy. Brown is old blood, so I think the bleeding inside is over and done with, the blood is just still finding its way out.
