Topic: Osteopath vs Chiropractor Posted: 29 November 2010 at 2:04pm |
Hi i was wanting some advise, am think of going to see a osteopath before i'm due, but wondering which was better a chiropractor or osteopath.
I'm really hoping to have a natural birth, after to em-csections so am willing to give anything a go, to try and get things sorted, so any ideas suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

I would see an osteopath. I've been to both and much preferred the techniques of the osteopath - much gentler - and without the hard sell that I've experienced with a chiropractor.

Thanks JessDub, was thinking of an Osteopath, just wish they were a bit more affordable, but if it helps sort things out then will be well worth it, plus my back is bad with this pregnancy

If you can ask around locally. I went to one osteopath and wasn't very impressed, but my dad recommended another one and he was great. I also have a friend who swears by a local chiropractor and now we are on a budget I would probably give him a try.

I highly recommend osteopaths who specialise in pre and post natal treatment. I started getting a really sore back and also rib pain in the second trimester, after one treatment the pain was gone! I only went back once more and now I am having an appt in my due date week to make sure my body is prepared for labour.
I have had really good results and would not hesitate spending the money, as it is your wellbeing at stake!

I'd also recommend an osteopath, I'm nearing the end of my second pregnancy and have been seeing mine weekly to keep on top of hip problems and SPD, and she's been fantastic. She specialises in pregnant women and babies. Whereabouts are you?

Osteopath!
But a friend of ours had a stroke after going to a Chiropractor, so that's put us off them. But Osteos are supposed to be gentle in their manipulation.
I havent had much personal experience, I took DS there when he was about 6months old.
I'm not sure where you are, but we went to the UNITEC clinic, it was cheap and the students do a consult, then get a 'real' osteo in, who supervises the whole session.

Love my chiropractor and have found him to sort out my problems much better than the osteo did. In saying that they weren't pregnancy related issues.

I've had 5 patients who have stroked after osteo and 1 after physio, so I'm pretty cautious of them all!
I also went to the student clinics at Unitec with mixed success - this time was OK, last time was really good.

I have never seen a osteo...but I see my chiropractor every week...
While I have been pregnant, he uses a `softer' technique esp with my lower back adjustments...he also works with newborns so our bubba will be seeing him too
