Topic: Bringing children to the midwife Posted: 01 November 2010 at 4:24pm |
Hi!
I got my first midwife appointment tomorrow(8 weeks pregnant), but I haven't been able to find a babysitter for my 2 year old..do you think it would be ok if I brought her along?
I'll bring some toys, and maybe a little treat, to hopefully keep her occupied...

My son has been to almost all of my midwife appointments. There are normally toys there for older kids.

DD loved coming to appointments because the midwife had an adjacent room full of toys and colouring in things.

I asked my midwife if she minded that DS came with me to my first appt, I was worried about that too! But she said of course and she had loads of toys to keep him occupied!

yep I always took the oldest with me to them. My mw said it was good cos then she isn't a stranger turning up after baby arrives it's someone they know from seeing them at the appointments, every little helps with the transistion I guess.

I really don't see how a midwife could mind. I know of some who do and personally on that grounds alone I wouldn't use them.
I strongly feel that your other children should be involved . They can listen to a heartbeat like anyone else and see a picture of the baby. If they feel involved at this stage surely they'll feel more accepting of the baby when it arrives.

Brought my daughter along to the midwife today, and it was all good! She was very well behaved, and got a box of toys to play with:)

I'm going to buck the trend and I took Ethan once and never again:) the mw was fine with it but I couldn't concentrate and he didn't like the monitor on me etc etc..
