Topic: What to treat stretch marks with? Posted: 20 September 2010 at 9:56am |
Hi all,
Im 38 weeks preg and have terrible stretch marks. Through the pregnancy I have been using clairns stretch mark control, derma oil, welda pregnancy oil and palmers stretch mark cream but ive still come off the loser.
Can anyone give me some advice on what you have used after your pregnancy to treat your stretch marks, what kind of effect it had and how long it took. To be honest my self esteem has taken a huge hit so I want to try and be proactive as possible and make them look the best they can asap!
Any ideas of other treatments would be appreciated too - ill pretty much try anything!
Cheers

Hey MHM2B, I found that after my son was born my stretch marks just faded away to little light lines that were barely noticeable. I moisturised occasionally and that was it.
Good luck with the birth and enjoy your new baby

Mine have faded too, haven't used anything but am considering it. Have heard great things about one product but it's something like $150 a bottle. But I've forgotten the name sorry!

Don't waste your money. Honestly. If you think about it they creams didn't do anything to prevent your stretch marks even though they claimed they would, and I think it is pretty much the same thing in regards to making them fade.
I got some on my thighs last pregnancy, and have just noticed some new ones on my bum a couple of days ago (which I am not very happy about!!!). But I am not too worried, as the ones on my thighs from my last pregnancy have really faded, and just look like light silvery lines. I didn't use anything on them.

Yup I agree with this! Although it can get you down at times, I have them on my calves of all places and feared I'd never wear shorts again, had a proper look and you can't actually see them now they've faded!
I remember hearing once, confidence is sexy. So if you're confident in your skin then don't worry about it!

I used stuff on my tummy with my son, but ended up breaking out in sores so I gave up.
Had majorly purple stretchmarks on my thighs and insides of my legs, breasts, and a few on my hips and a couple around my belly button. Its been almost a year now, the ones on my outter legs are now just white lines but the rest are quite obvious. I understand that it gives your confidence a huge knock, most fade in time, and there is always someone out there who is worse for wear. I googled stretch mark images, took that to realize I came off pretty lucky.
On that note also, "mummy marks." Wear them with pride!!

Only time will deal with the stretch marks...they will in time fade from red/purple to white/silver and be a lot less visible.
Genetics play a big part in whether you get stretch marks or not.

my cousin has a friend who used to work for Bio-Oil, and apparently it is basically a bit of a have - it's the rubbing in that helps with the stretchmarks, not the actual oil - it doesn't even have any Vitamin E in it. So I would avoid bio-oil personally, you can get vit E roll ons from the chemist (no script needed), I think they are about $25. not sure how effective they are, but I would assume they would help. All that said though, my bad stretchmarks faded to silver lines - I still hate them, but they are not the big purple ones like they were when I was preggy with #1.
