Topic: Dating scan , and scared ! Posted: 17 June 2010 at 11:52am |
I have a dating scan today , and im nervous .
I have no abnormal cramping, spotting or anything but I just get this irrational fear everytime I have a scan , that something will be wrong .
Even tho i've had 2 perfectly normal healthy pregnancies, I think I have this thought of "I get pregnant easily , I carry to term without complications, I have 2 beautiful kids ...my luck has to run out sometime "
Im being ridiculous aren't I ?
Does anyone else get really nervous before scans ?

I got very nervous before my 12 week scan. Other than tiredness all other symptoms had disappeared at 10 weeks.
The night before I kept having these irrational dreams that I was going to have twins.....

Not ridiculous, not at all. I think exactly the same way.
It's a completely normal reaction. Even though the baby was before the 12 and 19 week scans, I was still paranoid that there was going to be something wrong.

Totally normal I was so nervous about a missed miscarriage at my 12 week scan because at 11weeks mw couldn't pick up the heart beat (she told me not to worry - it's normal to not hear it until the next appt) andboy was I freaking out! Esp with MS disappearing from 11-13 weeks!
Then I had a gallstone attack and was worried bout the baby so had a scan at 19 and 20 weeks and freaked out before both!
I didn't freak out about my 34 week scan because I could feel her but still worried I would get bad news of some sort!

I'm 24 weeks and we've had 8 scans so far due to complications. Every time I am panicking over it - and each time he's fine and playing the fool for the sonographer
I think it's normal to fear the unknown, even though I can feel him I still worry there are things wrong with him. So you aren't alone!

Apparently the more children you have the more nervous you get as you start to think your luck is going to run out.
This is according to a couple of friends that are having or had #4. They said they were most anxious during pregnancy with their last.
I was def more nervous with #2 than #1.

Totally normal fears Kelly. I freaked out for both my scans - especially when I had to go for a walk and come back because she was in awkward positions - both times!!!

Yep always a bit nervous 'just in case...'
Am nervous about the 20 week scan cos I can't yet feel bubs properly and my ms has largely gone (thank god) so am in that limbo period where I don't feel overly pg!
How did it go anyway? Are you back yet?

I was the most freaked out before my first scan because I had no symptoms aside from no AF. No MS oh apart from sore ( . ) ( . ) but that could be attributed to anything.
So yes normal

ha , once shes born you'll worry even MORE Nic
Thanks guys ! glad im not the only one who feels this way
well , scan went fine, took a while to find baby cos my uterus is far down or something, can't remember what the guy said , but he found it , and there was a heartbeat and all , so yay , relief !
I was never nervous with C , not at all , and my first scan with her wasn't til 18 weeks, and she didn't start moving til 20 weeks, that was in the naive, ignorant days when I didn't know all the bad stuff that could happen
HAHA Tishy !!!!

Hows this for a spin on your feelings Kelly. My SIL had her scan last friday, she's kept me up to date with everything so far. I was SO nervous that everything was going ok. I just didn't want to wish any heart ache on them.
Thank god everything is a-ok & my niece or nephew was 13weeks last friday

Good to hear that it went well Kelly.
The word for me in reference to scans is pretty much terror and i tend to go over all the worst cases in my head even though I am trying really hard not to stress, even after having 2 straightforward healthy pregnancies. i will never forget hearing that my pregnancy was twins and they were conjoined - that was back in the days when I was naive! 19 week scan - not fun at all, in saying that i have one on Wednesday and i am really scared but also very excited - babies are exciting!
