Topic: Day sleeps for a 2yo Posted: 30 March 2010 at 5:15pm |
So I think that DS has officially decided he doesn't need a day sleep any more.... a week before his 2nd B'day
I would much prefer if he still did, as it's the only break I get, and can usually manage to get H to sleep for some of the time as well.
Should I try to make him sleep or just accept that he doesn't need one anymore????
TIA

We havent had a day sleep in months. Sucks doesnt it? Perhaps try tiring out some more? It dont know! its really hard when they go on a sleep strike.

Daniel still has time out in his room for some quiet time. If he has nothing he is horrible by 5pm. Sometimes he still sleeps. Today he had a sleep, usually friday and sat he has one as well.

Oliver still has one sleep a day - but he prefers mid morning and so is generally asleep between 10am and 11am through to 12noon or 1pm. We just give him lunch afterwards, although daycare feed him before hand.
If he doesn't have one he too is horrible to deal with....I find that even though he resists the nap, once we pop him into his cot and leave him he quickly settles and nods off.

Still a day sleep here, he goes down at 11.30 and gets up between 2 and 2.30 back to bed at 7.30.
Maybe try a different time of the day?
I know my one went thru a stage of thinking he could be a big kid and stay up all day, which of course would come ack and bite us in the bum in the early evening...
I'd keep trying.

I am with Mel and keep trying. DD still has 2.5 - 3 hours every day and there is no way she would possibly cope without her day sleep! DD goes down between 11:30 and 12 depending on what I have on that morning.

What time did he usually have his daysleep - 12pm? If so try pushing it out to 1pm, that's what we've done and it works. If DD1 goes to bed at 12pm she will stay awake until 3pm when I get her up, but if I put her to bed at 1pm she will fall asleep.

I'm with Mel. Jake decided he didn't need a nap (yeah right - he turned into a total monster without one) but didn't get an option and ended up getting over himself. He sleeps for 1.5-2hrs every day now, sometimes longer if hes tired-er or not well. Stick with it I reckon.

Tiring him out physically should help. I used to chase the boy i nannied for up and down the lawn having races and that helped stretch his day sleeps longer. Stick with it as long as you can!

We are dealing with this as well. The girls are two in a couple of weeks and they are really fighting the day sleep. They are in that awkward transition where they don't need it every day. But the days they don't have it they are pretty grumpy by the time 7pm rolls around.
I say just go with it. We usually do a nap every second day and it seems to work.

I thought the girls were dropping their naps a few months ago but it was just a phase. We've had the odd week where they don't nap but I persevered. Generally they'll skip 1 nap a week but I do have to sit with them to get them to sleep. Otherwise they'll party, get overtired and it's a hell of an afternoon after that.
Also whenever one of them is teething, naps are out the window.
