What did you do? When did you do it? How long did it take? What sort of seat did you use? Anyone got one of those TT seats that are on TM which sit like a normal seat but just has a smaller insert to lift up? Okay that's all my questions.

I personally think its better to forgo the normal potty and just go straight to the toilet with one of those insert things. The reason I think that is that you want whatever you choose to do to be adaptable for whereever you go. You aren't going to carry a potty around with you to everyones houses and when you are out and about. Daniel is great when it comes to toilets. We call it a potty cause he can say potty instead of toilet. We always use the same words so that he understands and knows what I'm talking about without confusion, daycare do the same as do our parents who have him often.
And hes just woken up so better tend to him before answering the others.. hope that start helps though

Hi,
Nothing to add from me sorry but...
Just to let you guys know an expert on Toilet Training does a session for the Auck Central Multiple Birth Club (ACMBC) each year on what to do. Anyone's welcome and pretty cheap for non-members.
And don't think everyone will know each other as they don't and we get singleton mums coming along too for the talk as he's pretty well known (not that I've heard of him myself) - obviously just ignore the multiple specific part of the talk.

Interesting Yvette. I just plan to book Daniel in with a friend's mum - she TT twins at 18 months in 1 day 
I'm really hoping we can start after Christmas. I'm not seeing any ready signs (other than he likes watching himself pee  ) but I want to get PG next year and there's no way I can do nappies with MS!

We TT Ella about 6 weeks ago and it only took us a couple of days. We went with the potty because it was easier for her to get on and off it herself and we just kept it in the living room so it was easy for her to get to. She is pretty independant so she liked that she could do it all by herself. It took her about 2-3 weeks to get her confidence up to sit on the toilet, but now she has no problems about using the toilet when we are out and about.
About 4-5 months before we TT her we started getting her to sit on the potty just after her bath, so she got used to it. Then one weekend we went for it and started dressing her in knickers and she got the hang of it pretty quickly (it helped that we used marshmallows as a reward).

Thanks for your thoughts. I was just going to go with a insert in the toilet but we'll see how it goes, not opposed to going out and getting a potty. I just think he sees us on the toilet but he doesn't see us using the potty.

We have an insert and a potty. I figure the potty will be good to leave in his room (just in case he gets up in the night and needs to go) and the insert will get him used to normal toilets.
We are starting 1 December (I like to put dates down and work towards). So now I'm starting to put his undies on over his nappy, telling him that only babies wear nappies and would he like to be a big boy and do poos and wees on the toilet and I just ask him every 1/2 hour or so if he wants to sit on the toilet (we call the potty a toilet too). Fingers crossed as I don't want 2 in nappies next year when I'm back at work.

My girls love this clip
We're just building up awareness for now. it's useful having 2 the same age as it's a running commentary as to whether the sister has wees or poos in her nappy
Hopefully will start after Xmas but will wait until we get all the signs.

If I wasn't a Mum I'd find the clip a bit disturbing. haha!
I don't sing it to them but they ask to watch that clip a lot!
We get a running commentary whenever we're sitting on the toilet.
They also know that after they've done a poo that the contents get flushed down the toilet before going in the bin.
Just waiting to make the link that they can sit on the toilet too.
We will try go straight to the toilet but will have a potty at hand for both needing to go at the same time scenario.
first, we won't be getting one of those seats (live in a rental) but I know a good few mums who do have them and highly recommend them. I know Mitre 10 do them as well.
However I think the colourful/animal print padded inserts might be more of an incentive for a toddler to sit on the toilet initially.

Jake fully daytrained himself at 18 months but got sick so now we're starting again (diahorrea (bad spelling sorry) = nappies!!).
He decided to use the potty before we'd had any thought of TT so thats why we started in the beginning then just left the potty in the lounge and he'd go when he needed too. I didn't need to do anything at all. He got sick earler this year and got the runs which meant mess so back into nappies which really upset him. He was sick on and off for a good 6 months and hes just come right in the last few weeks. Hes not keen at all on retraining but I think thats coz of the whole sick thing.
We use the potty and the toilet and I set the alarm for every 30 minutes (or 15 after a drink) and get him to sit on one or the other. We read a story and he's wee'd by then end and off to play again. He gets a small lolly for sitting on the toilet/potty coz I know he doesn't want to do it then a sticker afterwards.
For the toilet we use a little padded seat that just fits on our seat when we need it. He actually likes it more than the potty so it what we tend to use.

Wow Babe, what a shame about the sickness to get him back to wearing nappies. What a good boy though.
Do you all have a little step for them to sit on the toilet seat or do you take them to it when they need a wee/poo?

No step here. I will just be taking him. Maybe when he gets better at going I'll get a step but I'm busy getting everything else ready for tting and I figure that can wait. At least I hope it can.

LMAO def take him myself - letting him have free-rein in the toilet? I don't think so!!!!!!!
Yep he is a good boy and its a real pain about him getting sick coz he's SO not into it now. I think he might be worried it'll hurt coz his poor little bum was bleeding raw with the constant goings on. It'll get easier as the weather warms up coz he can just run round without a nappy on.

One reason the step is good (or something raised)is that they can rest their feet on it and it gives them some resistance when pooing. Strange but it is way easier to poo with resistance. Esp cos they're used to doing in their nappies where they have resistance on their bum and with their feet (if they're not asleep)
