Topic: Poos poos and more poos Posted: 27 October 2009 at 7:46pm |
Not bothering with a TMI warning cos the subject says it all.
Daniel is a prolific pooer - 7 today, 6 yesterday. His bum is red and sore and he (and we) dread nappy changes. Normal is about 4. Occasionally we have a day with no poos but spend the day dreading the poosplosion.
I'm starting to wonder if he's got an intolerance but don't want to mess with his diet without seeing the GP. It feels a bit weird going in saying "Daniel poos heaps. Is he normal?" He's sustaining weight but not putting much on though I think that's pretty normal at this stage. He's very active and his belly is a pretty solid thing.
What's normal for your toddler??

Ummm, normal is 2 - 3 a day. Sometimes there are none (maybe twice a month) for a day, sometimes we'll get 5 dirty nappies if she's eaten lots of dairy.

I'd say we on average have two a day, for the bum I use vaseline to help if its sore.

For JJ, 4 nappies is a really pooey day. Normally it's 1 or 2, generally in the morning, sometimes (maybe once a week or so) he doesn't do any, sometimes he does 3. More than 3 is unusual for us. He never poos in his night nappy.

Put curash on his butt!
But you could be on the right track re diet. We go from only one poo a day to almost every nappy if I introduce something that doesn't agree!
BUT consistency of it as well...is it a major mess or is it rolly offy IYKWIM. Rolly offy might just mean he's a pooer lol if not will possibly be something in his diet.
For a start look at the amount of acidic ie tomato stuff he has. Or Dairy can be a culprit as well

Jakes around one a day unless hes had something hes intolerant too then its a constant flow of crap lol sooo bad when I had MS!!!
GPs aren't much help when it come to food intolerances in my experience (and I've had ALOT of experience!!!) I'd recommend checking out the elimination diet or googling for extra info on what you should experimentally remove from his diet.
If you're concerned about possible food intolerances then try keeping a food and poop diary and it might show you a pattern GL!

Chloe sounds similar, she's around a 4 a day girl. She only gets REALLY rashy around teething time or if she eaten a lot of citrus or something, but we smother her bum in bepanthan after every change.
I don't think Chloe has ever had a rolly offy poo (is that the technical term, lol). Hers are always sticky and EVERYWHERE. (TMI!)
ETA: She has a pretty fibrous diet though! A lot of fruit and veg and stuff.

8 again so far - I can't face changing the last one. Bad mother. He has a fungal rash so I'm using anti-fungals on it. I'll head to the dr on Friday cos it's beyond funny and they smell quite nasty.
He so needs to be TT before I get PG again. I couldn't face this with MS

Horrid cake mixture type poos can be a sign of an intolerance or allergy so talking to your gp about that is probably a good place to start.
Spencer generally goes once a day, his use to be rolly offy but since a stomach bug 3 months ago they have been, in my DH's words, "a river of sh*t" Apparently it can take months for their tummies to come right after a stomach bug am so hoping it happens soon cos even one a day is hideous to deal with.
If you cook with lots of tomatoes swap to the low acid ones and that might help with the sore bum, lots of bum off time as well (although a bit dangerous in your house when he goes so many times).

My friend took her little boy to see our allergy paed just cos she was sick of the gross cake mixture poos and it turned out he is gluten intolerant, he's been gluten free for about a year now (is same age as Spencer) and he only does gross poos if he accidentally eats something with gluten.
He didn't have any other symptoms and the paed didn't think he had it but did a blood test just in case and his anti bodies were super super high. Not trying to worry you or anything but it is worth pursing it. They can skin prick test for things like dairy, bananas etc which is totally painless for them and only takes 10 mins and most of that is waiting for any reaction to happen and the gluten one has to be blood test which isn't very nice but Spencer had one and he was over it as soon as the needle came out, was just me who was left shaken

Yeah, we have a number of ppl with coeliacs in my family so I wouldn't be overly surprised. Grrr. He doesn't seem to have any tummy pain. Dan's a pro at medical stuff (he asks to have his blood pressure taken - spent too much time in cardiology!) so neither of us are fazed by tests.

1 a day, sometimes none here.
I agree with cuppatea. i think it's worth talking to your GP and perhaps getting him tested. Before my daughters allergies were identified, every nappy change was a dirty one and required a clothing change. It's amazing what a difference cutting out dairy made!

At the start of this post it sounded just like Lilly. The day I had Willow she started doing poos, poos and more poos, and they were disgusting. She was a once a day girl.
But for Lilly I'm pretty sure it was just from her two year old molers coming through.
Hopefully the doctor will be able to sort it out for you.

Jackson is normally once a day, but there wasn't much going in so not much coming out, I guess!
He's eating a little better now, so we often get two a day. They're still everywhere poos.... he still consumes mostly formula and yoghurt, so I expect that's the reason.
Four a day seems a lot, but reading through these replies it doesn't seem so unusual. I can see how you're over it though!

Went to GP. She's not worried about the weight but took bloods for coeliacs and poo sample for nasties. Wait and see! So far "only" 3 today (but I've made DH do them all )
