I absolutley know that tantrums are normal toddler behaviour, but how do you know when its a bigger behavioural problem.

For the last week we have had numerous meltdowns and tantrums, several a day most days. We have varying degrees from mild grizzling / clinginess to extreme head banging on the floor types, and I cant seem to pinpoint any consistent cause or trigger - other than he isnt getting his own way or exactly what he wants.

I need some advice on coping with these, I have tried distraction, ignoring, offering him what I think he wants....I just think we need to decide on a consistent way of coping with these, and I need some "hope" that he wont always be like this.

He is generally a happy wee boy, but since the onset on tantrums I am scared to go anywhere or do anything that might trigger them, and I feel a bit held to ransom.

Please tell me it gets better.....

I have found our DD nearly 2 is starting to throw alot more tantrums these day, I just say to her " If you want a tantrum go to the rug (lounge rug)" and usually this will stop her as she decides maybe I dont want one, or we have started Time out. So far I have only had to put her in her cot once and she was so shocked that now a threat for time out stops her in her tracks

Daniel has them. I tell Daniel not to tantrum and it doesn't get us what we want and then walk away. If he does it in public I just pick him up and ignore it. Its embarassing though

I'm the same as Stacey, I tell Lucas theres no point in throwing a tantrum as it's not going to get him anywhere and I just walk away. Sometimes he can carry on for half an hour, I regularly look at him/check on him to make sure he's not in harms way, but i still ignore it. Once he's calmed down he usually walks over for a cuddle or will just toddle off and do something else.

I think ignoring them is the best approach, my Nana however does not agree ....we've had many spats over the subject. I reckon that if you draw any attention to bad behaviour/tanties then in a way you are condoning that behaviour or sending them the message that it will help draw the attention they want (hope I'm making sense?)

Every kid is different though, I'd say what Ollie is displaying atm is totally normal though darl, Lucas is 28 months and still has his meltdowns (you heard him in action on the phone that day too i think lol)

Best of luck
