Topic: Arrgghhh 5.30am starts... Posted: 02 December 2008 at 11:08am |
What do we do?
Shall we get a clock for her and tell her to come in at this time ( 8am) haha.
Lucy goes to bed at 7ish and usually sleeps till 6am... I can handle 6am but not 5.30am...!
I think that one of the problems that we have is her room is too light in the morning. We have ventican (sp?) blinds throughout the whole house, then we have put some curtains over the top, but they aren't dark enough, I am sure if we get some proper ones that it may reduce the problem!
Any suggestions??

If you think light is the issue maybe try putting a blanket over the windows for a couple of nights and see if that helps, if it does then you can pop out and buy some blackout blinds, if not then at least it won't have cost you anything.
Other than that I'm no help whatsover, Michaela's 4 months younger than Lucy and more often than not ends up in my bed around 5:30am (at least she goes back to sleep though, even if she is a bed hog).

Oh I wish that Lucy was a bed hog! We make her go back to bed and read... but that only lasts for about 10 mins...!
Thanks, will try the blanket thing again

We used thick polar fleece ones over her curtains when Michaela was having trouble with the light. They seemed to do the trick.

My son has a sterio in his room and we set the timer so he was not allowed up till the music went off....Once it went off he was up like a shot letting us know it went off. We started this when he turned two...we he got a big boys bed. If he got up before hand we would shut his door (he hates it being shut) till the music went off. Well it worked for us, good luck

We have tried eveything we can think of, but Isla almost never sleeps in after 5.30am and goes to bed at 7-7.30pm. I will be watching this thread for more ideas!

My sister did a similar thing with the timer for her son except she used a nightlight and when the light came on he was allowed up.

Charlotte has her clock next to her bed and isn't allowed to leave her room until 7am. Its great! Helps to teach her the time and means she never comes in before 7 Sometimes she'll wake up earlier and read in bed or get up and play with her toys or do colouring. Other times she lets us sleep in Like this morning we had to get her up at 7.30.
ETA: We started the clock thing when she turned 3. We showed her what 7 o'clock looked like and she was really excited about getting it right and telling the time that she thought it was great
