Topic: Dropping afternoon sleep... Posted: 04 November 2008 at 3:36pm |
Zoe has just turned 11 months and has decided that one sleep a day is enough for her!
This is new to me as Lucy was such a darling and had 2 sleeps a day up until she was nearly 1.5 years!!
Miss Zoe sleeps from 9ish - 11ish and then that is it! I TRY and put her back to bed about 2ish and she screams and cries for about 30 mins, then I think ok, no sleep for her.
Who else has experienced this?! or is this normal?

Luke has done the exact same thing. He sleeps from 9-11ish and then when I out him down in the afternoon he won't sleep. He doesn't usually cry (if he does it means he is tired and will go to sleep) but he lies there and plays, talks to himself etc. I can leave him there for up to 2 hours and he will still be happy. So I have just changed him over to one sleep at 11am which is working well so far. After 3 days of one sleep he needed 2 days of 2 sleeps but that was fine with me too...
So it could be that she is just ready. Luke would have been the same age when he started doing this. The other thing that changed was he went back to going down for the night at 6pm instead of 7pm or later... This suits us!

Bella dropped her second sleep pretty early on too and although she gets tired by 1-2pm she WILL NOT give in and sleep. I find distraction the best too - going for a walk, reading stories, etc. and then by 5pm we start our 'wind down' routine and she is bed by 6pm. Yes, that is early, but that is the flip-side of her not getting that extra sleep. She sleeps till about 6.30am...

It's pretty normal i would not be concerned about it. My daugher stopped her morning sleeps when she was around 16 months. Now she sleeps just once in the afternoon for about 2-3 hours.

Well, my daughter cut out ALL naps at 16 months. No morning nap (which was the 1st we cut around 1 year old) and she would have 1 or 2 hour naps in the afternoon. She just decided 1 day she didn't want/need them.
Shes basically surviving on 11hours sleep at night & has done since then.
Doesn't really affect her at all.

Anyssa will have 2 sleeps, but if she has a long or late afternoon sleep she won't go to bed at a decent time at night.
So as of a week or so go, most days she's sleeping 10-1, and going to bed about 6:30pm.
