Topic: D&C on Monday Posted: 01 November 2008 at 11:41am |
So after having to wait for my hcg to fall and then having my GP mess up the referral process to the hospital I finally have an appointment for a D&C on Monday morning - a whole three weeks after I had my first scan showing a small empty sac.
I really hope I am making the right decision, doesn't look like I am going to mc naturally any time soon and I really want to get chromosomal testing done but going under GA and having them poke around in my uterus without being able to see what they're doing is kind of scary.

Oh VB I know I have said it before, but I will say it again...I am so sorry that you have to go thru this.
I know with my D&C I made the right decision...for my own reasons and I am sure you have too...its important that you are able to move on, its been a really long few weeks for you and you deserve to be able to get your body back to some sort of normality (whatever that is huh!)....
Big hugs to you and you will continue to be in my thoughts...
xx

I hope it goes smoothly for you from now on. There is a thread somewhere about my experience....I had to bascially organise my dnc because the 'professionals' coudln't get their act together; so I know how you feel.

hugs vanillabean and I really understand what your going through at the moment.
I went in last Wednesday for my d & c, and I have never been into hospital for anything so was a bit nervous. But after finally getting a bed on the ward by the time 4pm came around I just wanted it done lol, I was over the waiting and well just everything.
I must say the nursing staff at Waikato Hosp are fantastic, can't say enough how fab they are. And I don't remember a thing, had to wait the standard two hour to go home after. Now just trying to take things easy.
Goodluck hun, but I was the same and it didn't look like I was going to miscarry anytime soon so for me it was the right decision

Mine was also at Waikato. And I must say that the people who dealt with my right outside the theatre room where fantastic also. Giving me time to ask questions etc, and answering in a way I'd understand.
Then also in the postop room they were really attentive also, and got the appropriate person to come quickly to me when I had a minor complication afterwards.
Overall it wasn't a bad experience, aside from why I was there.....but the people are really emphathic and will treat you with care.

Take care Vanillabean, having a D&C is a very emotional time (I cried all day at the hospital). However, its good to have it done and know that now you can concentrate on healing and dealing with the emotional side of the mc with your partner.
I hope it all goes well for you.

VB- how did your D&C go? I hope you are ok (IYKWIM! ) and have had lots of kindness and support. I have also been through what you are experiencing and it's gut wrenching. Am thinking of you and sending you lots of ((hugs)).

Well it all went really smoothly and I have had very little pain or bleeding. Have been staying with my mother because DH had to present at a conference in Auckland but back at home now.
The idea of it was definitely worse than the reality as I guess all the scary stuff happens while you're unconscious.
Still feeling pretty raw emotionally but I'm glad that this bit is over with. I think the worst thing for me at the moment is knowing that there is no explanation for the mc and that all I can do is keep trying but I am at higher risk to have more.

I'm glad you have come though this Vanillabean.
The risk you mention is only slightly higher. I know you are taking a break from what your signature says.
A friend of mine conceived twins after her 3rd concecutive mc before an AF, and they weren't even trying that month...just the 'pressure' taken off themselves helped.
I also had a d&c this in June and conceived within a month after that, not having an AF either.
There is hope out there. I do understand where you are coming from having had 3 concecutive mc's myself.

Thanks Nefertiti for the encouragement and its always great to hear about success stories. We have been ttc over 18 months now plus are dealing with the recent death of my FIL and are petty emotionally exhausted so we wouldn't cope well with another loss or even a the worry of a pregnancy right now. Will definitely be trying again in a few months though.
