He’s biting me!

OK, I;m Tom;s favourite teething device at the moment.  He is biting me almost any opportunity he gets.  They used to be kisses or raspberries but now they are bites.  They also used to start slobbery and then move into a bite, now they just nip straight away.  He has only bit DH once (on the nipple and I couldnt help PMSL)  Tom thought it was funny as we were both laughing but then DH told him he mustnt bite mummy and daddy and he started crying.  I felt awful.  He also bit me today when he walked from DH to me and I didnt want to tell him off too much as we are trying to really encourage the walking.

 

All I am doing at the moment is pulling him off and saying NO! Dont bite Mummy!  But I have found myself giving him a little smack on the bottom out of reflex......which I dont know if I want to do.  The first time I did that I ended up in tears....heck I dont think he;d have even felt it through his nappy but I felt awful.

 

 

Any ideas???

The smack does work, not as a hurt thing but as a fright thing, and was what I did at first too.

What I do these days (when I'm bf lol) is put them down on the floor for 60 seconds before re-offering feed or whatever they next need. This way, I hope, they learn to link biting with no food.

I tried that with Spencer before the time out but he didn't care, would just happily go and play on his own, he use to laugh in my face when I said no as well

Spose it depends on the child. My voice was so stern that he knew I was very unhappy with him and he did not like that one bit.

Possibly but Spencer was biting our coffee table for months before we did timeout and stopped it. Biting us though was a bit different it was more the over excited kisses but then he started thinking it was funny just to bite us (well I say us it was me 98% of the time) and not even bother with the kiss bit. He still does get over excited and bite now and again but not to the same degree and I haven't had to put him in timeout for a few weeks.

The other thing we did and still do is lots of teaching "gentle" cos he was also quite bad for pulling my hair and pinching my face and getting over excited and wacking the cat, but none of it seems intentional just more that he doesn't quite understand that it hurts. Seems to be working as now he gives me a kiss and then pats me, instead of biting me and ripping my hair out And he's got much better with the cat too and is nice and gentle with them. They still get the odd wack though.

Daniel uses the cot for teething too, but ah well, if it helps he can do it. It's quite funny seeing all the teeth marks all over the sides

Tom seems to be getting it when I say "No biting!" or "dont bite" he pulls off before he's made contact.

my boy bites not through teething but if he gets told to do something he doesnt want to he will bite down on your hand.......crossing the road is a scream.............he draws blood and even tears the flesh.............we think he is a reborn vampire :-) we have tried everything .....he just laughs ...........even pretending to cry..the only thing i find that helps is that when he does it ill walk out of the room.....he throws major tanty but i think he is learning
