It's been an unmitigated disaster here too, the gremlins just get out and destroy their room and I now have two completely feral toddlers who can't kick the nasty cold/virus they have coz they are so tired and run down their immune systems are crap. I can't put them back in the cots tho coz they don't stay in them any more than they stay in their beds and it's too dangerous to have them climbing.

Today I took everything out of their room including their dressers (yesterday they pulled all their clothes out ), I left the bedside tables seeing as there was nothing in/on them but they pushed them up to the door so they could reach to open it and escaped so out came the bedside tables too.

I wish I had some advice for you Ann but I am at my absolute wits end so just know you're definitely not alone!

Wow Emma your girls are way too clever for their own good! How is their compliance during the day? I read somewhere that in order to expect night-time compliance / good behaviour etc, you need to have the daytime sorted (as sorted as it can be with toddlers). Do they have structure to their day? How do you deal with their destruction during the day?

See I think the destruction during the day is a flow on from their poor sleep. The less sleep they have, the worse they behave. The last few weeks have been hard as far as daytime routine is concerned coz they have been up and down to Starship for ear appointments, plus baby has arrived and then been sick and it's been pretty full on, and it was totally the wrong time to transition them into beds as I wanted to get the sleep stuff settled first but they backed us into a corner on that one. But as far as behaviour is concerned I'm pretty consistent, we do time out for problem behaviours, the only exception to that is if I'm feeding Chiara and there's no one else here to implement it (and they do play on that) or if Willie is left in charge coz he is hopeless as far as discipline is concerned.

There is a huge lack of consistency with nights tho, sometimes Willie leaves them to it, other times he'll give them a bottle or put them in his bed, if I'm in charge I leave them to it and when the respite nurse is here she pats them to sleep. So my goal for this week is to regain consitstency, Willie has been given strict instructions to stay out of their room at night coz he's too soft, and I'll tell the respite nurse the same when she comes tomorrow night.

oh Emma hun I feel for you. I must confess we are back to the cot but can't do that forever cause as you say its just too dangerous him climbing out (well he actually climbs on the top and sits - like on a horse and yells ow ow - cause must be hurting the jewels lol) and scared he will lose balance and hit the heater or something else in his room - so ours is not a good fix - turned the cot side round to the wall.

I am going to borrow a side guard for the bed and see if that helps him feel like the is in the cot. Then buy one of my own if it works.

I am glad you have a little help ut I do agree consistancy is what they need (any toddler does)

What clever gremlins (ratbags) you have working out how to open the door. I guess its right when they say double trouble (sure thats no comfort what so ever for you though)

Good on you for tell Willie off - I do the same with DH - what is it with fathers and being a soft touch!!!

I think they just don't have the stamina for listening to them complain the way us mums do! EIther that or we're just over it from being stuck with them 24-7 so easier to ignore the complaining!

Good luck with the bed rail! We've just put pillows down beside the beds and when I went in to check a while ago Mercedes was asleep on the pillow on the floor, but hey, she's asleep and that's all that matters!

Good luck with the rest of the night! We can share stories in the morning!

How did Rhyley's night go Ann? Ours wasn't tooo bad, I was feeding Chiara at 4am and heard little footsteps, when I finished feeding and went to investigate I found them both tucked up in bed with Willie and him passed out completely oblivious so I took them back to their own beds, removed the ride on car that they had somehow managed to sneak in there before bed and used as a step to reach the door handle, and tucked them in. They started screaming and a few mins later I heard Willie get up and give them a bottle but I was busy dealing with lil miss who had decided it was playtime so I had to leave him to it.

Day sleeps today were relatively successful, they slept 1 1/2 hours which is less than their usual 2-2 1/2 and not enough to catch them up on their interrupted night sleeps but better than nothing.

well lets hope tonight is even better...

confession is we arent doing the bed thing... he is sick with the cold/flu thing so not going to upset him more so the open side of the cot is against the wall still.. although he is waking like once in the night - its fustrating as all i have to do is go in lie him down and walk out and he sleeps the rest of the night - it seem s to always be round 3am when he wakes. So I am hanging for a full night sleep   This has been going on for a while now so its wearing thin... i have tried the CIO and an hour later I wished I had just gone in for the 5 seconds it takes!and it didnt work.
