my suggestion would be (because we do it) is to have a really quick easy meal...and then we just play hard with Rhiannon until her bed time...we dont tend to change it...and then we just chill with vids or books or something.

or if you can get someone to watch Vincent and go to the movies or something just to get away for a little bit

Its a bit harder now that winter is here, but over summer we would quite often go for a walk, to the park etc after dinner while it was still light. All I can think of now, is going out for dinner or to someone elses house.

yea, we wanna do things with him. it's a pity places like chipmunks aren't open at night. DH doesn't enjoy just walking round a mall like i do, just to get out really. we went out for dinner last night, but without a playground, it not much fun. unless we go to mc d's, but then most of them don't have a good playground for lil ones anyways. we tend to play heaps of running round stuff at night with him anyways.

well just my opinion but there is a reason that things like chipmunks arent open at night. LOL!

you might be better off getting him used to going to sleep at a decent hour then you and hubby could go out for dates together, and it would get him into good habits for when kindy and school starts. and you might find it helpful when the new baby comes along.

I know what you mean! We have found cobb n Co great. We quite often go there with another family who have one about your age.

We also quite often go for a drink somewhere on a Sunday afternoon - as an outing. We have a group of 3 couples who all have kids of different ages so we find Sundays good as most places are quiet so the kids can get away with a wee bit more Also have found places that just have enclosed beer gardens rather than play areas.

Well we went out for dinner (baby-less) last night to a Thai restaurant, and there was this little 17-month old wandering about, going back and forth from her family's table to the plants, the staff, other diners every now and then.  It was a nice restaurant and not set up for kids at all, but she was so lovely just playing there like she owned the place, that no-one minded, and she sure looked happy to be there.  The staff said she's in once a week.  I guess it really depends on the child, and the place too, and achieving something like what her family had would be a long shot for most of us!

or maybe you could find things for to do during the day so you dont feel the need to go out at night...esp with it getting much colder.

If you can't get him to bed at a decent time. Why not take him to the airport to watch the planes? I think it would be a wicked sight to see those big planes arriving at night. You could go to the observation car park that is on Puhinui Road. Or rug him up and go to the Domestic terminal and go out on to the observation deck, you could do that at the international terminal too. Only thing with that is the parking costs.

Or go to Sylvia Park and let him play in the playground there while you guys have a coffee?

Go for a ride on the Devonport Ferry and back.

Thats all I can think of for now.

thanks guys, and he does normally go to bed at decent time, 7.45pm. and he does have a good routine at night. but when dh works so much, it nice to get out on friday night. hadn't thought of airport actually, he would love that. and play ground at sylvia park is not necessarily for lil kids. altho he did nejoy it a bit last time. just think it would b really busy at night?

we are trying to do stuff as a family before baby comes and i am restricted again. hence starting this thread. please, if you don't agree, that's fine, but we just want to enjoy Vincent as he often has lots of energy and we just wanna enjoy time as a lil family. Saturdays DH is either working, or needs to do stuff round house, and Sunday is filled with Church n avo naps n dinner wit my family.

The gremlins love the playground at Sylvia Park and they are a similar age to your bub Chonny, altho I do have a Maya to chase them so I kind of fence them in there then ignore them

that's the sort of thing we wanna do kellz! unfortunately living in papakura, there not many nearby parks i would wanna go to at night.

maya, i think that's why Vincent enjoyed it last time, coz he had someone to play with. altho, DH lvoes playing with him on those sorts of things. i will tell dh we have to do that this weekend if it's wet.

Bizzy, that playground by columbus is great for older kids but when mum n i took Vincent there last time, he couldn't climb on anything as it was too steep. might b different now he knows how to climb a ladder, but yea, outside ones don't fancy my tickle. lol. plus, DH is a bit of a wooss (sp?). lol.
