Topic: First Tummy Bug :( Posted: 30 December 2007 at 1:39pm |
Sam has only really just gotten over a mild cold, where he had a little cough for a few days and a slightly snotty nose for about a week, and this morning when I went to get him up at about 8AM there was POOS everywhere! All up his back, all over the sheet, on his pants, hands and feet. Not only that but he was making a really funny noise, almost like a wheeze and then throwing up phlegm. I cleaned him up and then he puked like that two more times and then fell asleep for an hour. I am trying to give him boiled water because he's not hungry at all, but he will only take small sips and then refuse any more. He is currently crashed out again and has been for the past hour.
Is there anything else I should do for him, other than try with the cool boiled water? When he's awake he's pale and a bit quiet, but still happy and active and crawling all over the place.

Just make sure he doesn't get dehydrated is all I can suggest. Daniel hated boiled water so we gave him watered down e2 (apple and blackcurrant one) on the advice of our doc.

Just keep an eye on his wet nappies to make sure he is still doing them. Keep on with the water, and maybe check with a chemist as I think you can pick up some pedialyte (sp?) stuff over the counter for rehydration. We have a box called Enerlyte that we use for DD when she has the odd bout of diarreha and we got it through our GP but I think there are a couple of different types. It tastes like oranges and she loves it so helps to keep her hydrated. Poor wee Sam, I hope he feels better soon!

lots of cuddles (this is good for you too )
it sux doesn't it. Poor wee mites. Just keep Sam as hydrated as pos, they say that even if bubs is spewing it back up again or they don't appear to be drinking much, they are still retaining a bit which is better than nothing
Also too, may I suggest that you look into strenghting your immune system with garlic, echanasa (SP) or the likes because more than likely you too will come down with it too.
Cailin has been vomitting since 12 yesterday. We now are down to 3 towels in our cupboard. Thankfully it is a sunny day here so all the sick towels are getting dry...now I am just waiting for Jeremy to get it, or me, or worse, DH....

Thank you everyone, well Sam deteriorated over the last couple of hours so I took him to the emergency room. He has a gastro bug and has lots of pedialyte to keep his fluids up. He hasn't vomited for a while but the diarrhea is pretty bad. He just looks so sad. :(

The pedialyte is great stuff, there has been a lot of gastro going around the past couple of months, we've had it through here a couple of times. Usually comes right in a couple of days. I hope it clears up for you guys soon and that you don't get it as well - wash your hands really really well!
Big hugs to you and Sam, tummy bugs are yuck and no fun for anyone.

Hope Sam sleeps though the night for you so you can get some well deserved rest as well.
BTW, Cailin hasn't been sick since tea time so fingers crossed she too is over the worst of it

Well he has perked up a little bit. Thanks for all the well wishes. He hasn't vomited since about 11AM and has kept down all the pedialyte and even 100mls of formula. He still has diarrhea though and his heart is beating really fast.
