Topic: When to introduce a pillow? Posted: 05 November 2007 at 9:26pm |
When do you/did you introduce a pillow? I have finally weaned Ashleigh from her safety sleep and now 9 times out of 10 she falls asleep on her tummy, using the folded blankets at the end of her cot as a pillow. So just wondering if I should get her a really thin one?

Andrew was about 18 months old when we gave him a pillow.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I gave Charlotte one when she started making her own pillows- like Ashleigh. I think she was around the same age. She still uses it- its a really super thin one and we had one of those hidden zipper covers on it.

I gave one to Hannah when she started sleeping on her teddy. I just put a really tin one under her bottom fitted sheet so she couldnt get under it. Just last week I took it out from under the sheets and now she has a 'proper' pillow.

jack didn't have a pillow til he went into a big bed at 2yrs. he would always use his teddy as a pillow but i never thought to give him one then......in saying that, he still uses his teddy instead of the pillow

That's a great idea about sticking it under the bottom sheet! I've been wondering if Ella is heading for a pillow soon - she fell asleep for her morning nap today using her bumper as one, and has started to sleep on her side a lot.

I gave Xanda one when he moved from cot to bed. It is a really thin one, and hadn't even thought to give him one until my mum commented that I was mean, because he too was using a teddy as a pillow.

Alex has had a pillow for about a month now. He didn't show any signs of wanting one (never used teddy etc as a pillow) but my mum thought it was time he had one, so she bought him one. He is the same as Ella... butt in the air on his tummy!! Very cute!!

With Paris we did the same thing - we put her thin one underneath the bottom sheet.
Ayja is still in her convertible cot, and hasn't shown any signs of wanting one, her matress is nice and soft so we haven't introduced one as yet.
