I went 17 days, went into labour on the 16th day and gave birth on the 17th. MW checked the placenta and it was just right so technically not overdue, just wrong dates. It frustrates me that some MWs are super keen to do an induction within a few days of being overdue when dates could just be wrong.

I didn't go overdue, but my mum was 5 days over due with me... And the only one in our family to go overdue so far that we know of... My grandma had my mum a week early and I had DD a week early.

Mum was 7 days over with me.
I went 15 days with #1 and 16 days with #2. I was induced with both and they took 3-4 days to come after the induction started. With both babies, the fluid levels were similar to a 38-40 weeker and they appeared like a 40 weeker (i.e not overcooked), so it seems that for me, a normal gestation is at least 42 weeks. If we had a #3, I'd see if I could (mentally) hold on longer before induction.
One of the July 08 mums was 17 days with her #1.
And AbzH - that's why hospitals are now changing their policies and often not inducing till at least 10 days, if not 12 days overdue. Partly cos dates are often wrong, and b/c a normal gestation is 38-42 weeks. They find that most women will go into labour before 42 weeks if they leave them along.

My Mum went into labour super early (3 months early) and they managed to stop it and then she ended up going just over two weeks overdue - that was with my sister (her first).
I went 40+6 before DS decided to arrive and that felt like long enough, though this time if I go further overdue I'll be asking to wait as long as possible without being induced, I really really want to go into labour naturally if at all possible.

I was happy to go 18 days before I looked at induction, but I did want monitoring just to check all was ok from 10 days over. As it was, my MW ended up phoning from delivery to cancel my post-dates appointment at 10 days over about 10 minutes before it was scheduled

My mum went 3 weeks overdue with my eldest sister, then did the cod liver oil thing.
My friend went 3 weeks overdue, when she went in for the induction they said she was already 2cm dialated and probably would go into proper labour very soon but they just gave her a chemical kick-start.
Same friend has long cycles, I do wonder if she'd been charting and knew the OV date if she'd find out that she wasn't late at all.
IMO (unmedical) if you've got your dates from knowing when you OV'd that's got to be more accurate than the start of the LMP - right?
Then there are the perople for whom the preg is a surprise and they are going from scan dates only, does "late" count when your date's given from measuring a fuzzy picture of someone who's only a couple of cm long?

I went 16 (14 days and then induced and 2 days to end up with a csection). My mw said I could have gone a few more days if I wanted but I was really over it by that stage. The hospital were adamant that I needed to be induced at 42 weeks and no later.

My mum went 4 weeks over with my oldest sister. The doctors disagreed about her dates but when my sister was born she had obvious signs of been well overdue. Even that far over she was still a tiny 6lb something. Second oldest was i think was 3 weeks overdue then us 2 youngest were 2 weeks overdue. My poor mum. 4 stubborn girls. lol.

Ds was 14 days, I was induced on day 11 but that failed so he was by cs on day 14. He was quite over cooked, really dry skin everywhere

all my children were overdue and with all of them i had early scans (like 7 weeks early) so knew my due date was accurate. My longest was 42+3 days and they tried induction with him twice. None of them looked over cooked and they were all good weights - high 8 and 9 pounders. I really wish i had been able to stay firmer in my resolve not to have an induction with my last pregnancy as i'm pretty sure the outcome would have been a lot different if i had waited till she was ready. it certainly changed my attitude about a few things thats for sure. I only regret that i never got to experience going into labour spontaneously...

i got induced and then labour naturally..and both were the same..(though both turned posterier in labour so i dont know what it's like if they arent) and i found no difference..
I went early with both mine..first one medical reasons and second just early as they had my dates wrong(which i told them at 6 week scan!!) anyway.. I admire anyone who can even go one day over...my hats off to you guys:)!!!

I was induced on my 10th day over after begging the OB for it. No signs of natural labour starting, 'not favourable' internal. I didnt have a lot of fluid left but baby was born with no signs of being overcooked and was 9+ lbs. I was ready to have it out only a couple of days over, power to those who can hold out so long!

My 10 day overdue baby had sure sings of being late, extremely dry and peeling skin, and he was fairly large at 10lb 13oz, and the placenta did not look so flash, so i was very happy to be induced and had a very fast 2 hour labour. Eeek 41 days overdue
