Isla can now climb out of her cot, so we leave the side down so its safer.
Shes always been an early riser, never sleeping much past 6am ,...but now its 4.30-5am and we are exhausted.

Help! Any tips greatly appreciated!

im in the same boat, now that the birds are starting earlier Xavier is waking at 5.00 - 5.30. it used to be 6.30 which i can handle. He just yells MUM for a while or plays in bed quietly. i go in every now and then and tell him to go back to sleep. (luckily his door handles are too high for him to reach so he cant get out) I think consistency is the key though, if you dont let them away with it then they will eventually stop waking.
My friends let their boy get up when he wants and now they are all getting up at 4.30am to start the day! its ridiculous and they are exhausted but they dont have the heart to say no to him.
So if you dont want to be a walking zombie, just keep putting her in her bed, maybe put her in a sleep sack so she has trouble climbing out and keep it up. maybe a few weeks of that and she will be so over it, shel just stay in bed. Make sure you say its too early to be up, go back to sleep. then say nothing when you go back in to put her to bed each time.
It seems to be working for us as there are no more tantrums about it, he has just accepted that he has to stay in his room until 6.30.
Good luck!

Oh cool thanks. We were going to do that- like the supernanny thing of reminding its bed time then just putting them back over and over til they stay.
I tried once last week, but DH was worried that maybe its the wrong technique for early waking cos we only saw it used on tv, when putting kids to bed. Isla was screaming so much that we stopped and she came in bed with us. So each morning we have just been letting her come in with us. Its only been happening a week or 2 since she started getting out of her cot. We finally have her sleeping thought til 6am most nights,...now this

The less sleep we get, the further away we are from being ready for #2

I also find that the girls get up around the same time no matter what time they go to bed but I find they have a more rested sleep if the go to bed at their normal time 7-7.30.  If Anastasia wakes early she will normally have a drink of milk and either go back to sleep in her bed or in ours but if Karl is getting up for work then she is up like a shot so I prefer her to wake a little eariler and go back to sleep than waking at 6 and getting up.  Sorry not much help but maybe have a small snack, we used to have bananas for Ashlyn in the morning and she would sleep for a bit longer.  She may be having *another* growth spurt?

Yup..Blake can get out of his bed but cant get back in so we frequently have him wandering around in there at some stupid hour...We have also had to put those plastic nob things on all our doors as he is so tall now he can open them and escape!

If I get up to him I dont speak and dont look at him...pick him up and put him back and say in a firm voice.."Go to sleep"...and walk out....

Mark is a bit more gentle!!! LOL

Argh Kellz, sucky for you! I have nothing useful to suggest except that I am a mean mummy and don't let mine out of their room til 7am. It does help that there are two of them tho, if they wake early they just play.

Yeah Ashleigh has started waking around 5.30/6am ish. I'm hoping that daylight savings starting will fix it as it is so light in the mornings now. I have one of those plastic knob things on the inside of her door so she can't get out (her room is downstairs and ours up so don't want her wandering around without us knowing) and like Emma, we don't get her up until 7. I leave a few toys and books in there when I go to bed so she plays with those. In between calling out for us and banging on the door of course lol.

Isla can get out of her room herself. It has a cavity sliding door. We dont get her up,..she comes in herself.

Maybe would should move her into the other room so that we can keep the door shut ans cant come out then? Lol Kelly yep we are sure Isla will just stand there and scream and bang on the door too.
She has never been one to wake and just lie there or play quietly.

once sarah got to about 2 1/2 i put a alarm clock in her room and set the timer on it for 6.30, if she woke earlier she was allowd to play quietly in her room but she had to stay in her room untill the alarm went off.
worked a treat

So we have decided that we will be tough and do the supernanny thing and keep putting her back til she stays. We decided against putting her in the other room and shutting the door cos she will no doubt yell and scream and we wont sleep anyway,..and when she is a bit older and is able to open the door,..then we will have the same problem as we have now.

She has been going down so well for her day nap too, and if she falls asleep on the way home from daycare or town at nap time, I can just lift her out and put her in her cot no problem,..but the last few days she been waking up and not sleeping til I lie with her in my bed,..so I had to put a stop to that too,...so for the last half hr I have been putting her back countless times,..and now she is asleep! Woo hoo! Hpefully now it will be easier to d it tomorrow am, and she will know Im serious,..and I know it works and I can not give in!

What happens if she gets up at like 5am,..and I keep putting her back again and again and then it gets to 6am (when we have decided she can get up- cos she has never slept past then)? Do I just give in at 6am and let her stay up,..or will she think shes won then, and just learn that if she doesnt give in, eventually I will??

See I'm far too lazy (tired) in the middle of the night (that's what 5am is to me ) so I say to the child, it's still night time, go back to sleep, and I put them back and shut the door. If she does cry and carry on, block your ears because it will probably only take 2 days max to get the idea. We didn't actually have the crying and carrying on problem, even Kryssi if she wakes in the night accepts that it's still sleep time and will quiet down right away.

Lol your lucky Teresa! We have a very stuborn little madam! We cant shut her door cos its a sliding door. But after the sucess this afternoon with continuing to put her back to bed, we will try that in the morning too.
I have also made her a sticker chart, if she stays in bed 5 times then she will get to go to the beach with me! I gave her a stciker for it this afternoon after she finally did go to sleep, and she thinks the chart is pretty cool.
I have also read the info from mel, thanks! It confirmed for us that there arent any other issues that we have missed, and that we arent expecting to much for her to have 12 sleep total per day.

yay good on you Kellz! the more you do it the more she will understand.
If Xavier wakes up before 6.30am i tell him that i will come and get him when it is time to get up. so it is not giving in, just go in and say "yay, its get up time now, I told you i would come and get you".
The alarm is a great idea, i might try that. Although these kids are so technology savvy he will no doubt reprogram it! he can already put his own dvds on, find the right channel and push play.... we are now contemplating a life without a Tv!!!
