Any clues? How do you know when is the right time to drop naps? DS has just turned 2 and currently sleeps for 2 hrs from 12.30 - 2.30pm. I wake him if he sleeps past this.

He goes down really quickly and is tired before he sleeps BUT we are having very early mornings. He has always been an early riser (6am) but it is now regularly 5.30am or a bit earlier. We pushed his bedtime out to 7.15pm from 6.45pm but this hasn't made any difference to the am wake-up. He sometimes takes a while to settle at night but is always asleep by 8pm and generally sleeps through.

I always thought that when he was ready to drop the nap he just wouldn't sleep or wouldn't settle at night. My gut feeling is he still needs the nap but the early mornings are a real PITA I am also very attached to his naptime as it is the only downtime I get and I really need it at the mo being 30 weeks with baby no 2.

I've tried leaving him in his cot when he wakes but he gets so distressed and hyperventilates etc that I end up getting him after about 2 minutes. I guess I am just asking for other peoples opinions to either reassure me he isn't ready to drop it or to give me a kick up the bum and tell me to drop his nap

Sorry, turned into a long post - hope it makes sense and TIA

I think he still needs the nap. Lilly was starting to get up earlier and earlier in the morning so we got her a monkey clock from www.moosebaby.co.nz its called a 'sleep trainer' its basically a alarmclock.

When you put your child to bed at night 'moomoo' goes to sleep as well and when sleep time is finish and its time to get up 'moomoo' wakes up.
Lilly use to be a 8-9am girl but started getting up at 6.45. I have now got her to 7.50. and about half the time she sleeps pass the monkey waking up.

I think they may be available from some Farmers stores as well.

We used a nightlight with Alex about that age. We set it up with a timer so it came on at the time we thought that she could get up. The thing with it being a nightlight was that it wouldn't wake her if she was asleep but if she was awake she would know whether she could be up for the day.
