going to sleep through the night?
Alex has always been a shocking night sleeper. We started our with wind issues and then have moved into teeth and illnesses and I so don't know what to do to encourage him to sleep through. He can do it as he has before even to the point where I though yay we are finally there but then his molars started moving and he got an ear infection and then sore throat and now 8 weeks later after being up for an hour and a half early this morning a rant was so on the cards Most of the time I really couldn't care less but on the odd occasion I have a day where I just want someone to come and take him away and bring him back when he sleeps Anyway thanks for letting me rant

sorry don't have any advice, but to let you know that Ella didn't sleep through the night until just before she turned 2 and since then she has slept through the night every single time.

I am not good with advice either really..i think in our case the dummy is an issue and teething..so he goes through several nights not a peep and other nights needs us to go in sometimes just to sit next to the cot and other times to cuddle for a few mins before we go to bed...the actual night wakeups have got less i hardly ever have to get up to him but he will wake every few nights and let out a cry or two... but all i did was let him grizzle /cry for a few mins to see if he'd settle and he often would.. but anyway hugs cause it sucks!

Yip, my boy didn't start sleeping thru consistently until he was about 14 months and only started sleeping thru every night when we put him in a big bed at 18 months.
I wanted a good sleeper this time but it appears I have lucked out again

NO advice but just wanted to say "yeah those molars suck, we've been up a lot lately with Daniel too and they take forever to come through". He will eventually get there.

I will to plunket for advice when Lilly would only go to sleep on the boob and was waking in the night for a feed at 11 1/2 months. Their advice was:
Last feed for the night (bottle/breast)
Bath
Story
Into bed, leave for 5 mins. Go back in settle without picking up. Lay them down and going back out. Leave for 10 mins, repeat 15mins repeat etc. They said that this can take sometime the first night but you need to be dedicated otherwise baby/toddler learns that if I cry for long enough I get my way.
When/if they wake in the night leave for 3 mins, go in settle without picking up, go back out for 5mins, resettle, 10mins etc.
They say it takes 3 nights to brake (sp?) a habit.
The first night for us was surprising Lilly was asleep in 7mins, woke once in the night it took 45mins to settle. Second night 30mins to settle then 15 mins in the middle of the night. Third night no problems.

Golly, I feel so blessed that Jimmy has slept through since 6 months. Mind you, he's hardly ever been sick and still only has 10 teeth so those factors haven't really been an issue for us.
At 3 months of age I started using Tracy Hogg's "babywhispering" techniques to teach him to sleep. After a couple of months of hard slog he finally got it and it's been bliss ever since *touches wood*.
The Babywhisperer website is really helpful and has tips about how to deal with almost every sleep problem imaginable. Have a look at this message board for advice on dealing with toddler sleep issues. Perhaps start with the FAQ at the top of the page?
