Now that Cian's hit the big 1 year mark (scary!) I have started him having a drink of normal blue-top milk for lunch everyday. I still breastfeed him twice a day (morning and night) but now I'm wondering if maybe it would be better to give him formula - like that toddler one they've been pushing on tv so much lately -instead of his lunchtime milk drink. What's the norm?
I wondered the same about the formula Anita. But I think that if he is eating a balanced diet (and has no problems with the milk) then the normal milk should be fine - just looking at the ad on the right side of this webpage and it says "Supplements the diet of active toddlers when their regular intake doesn't meet their needs". It can be so confusing can't it? Is it just marketing?
I put Hannah fully on to blue-top milk 3x a day after 12 months of breastfeeding.
She eats really well, so I don't feel she's missing out by not having the toddler formula.
Personally I feel it's a bit of clever marketing, but at the end of the day a blanaced diet (whether from just food or from a mixture of food and formula) is key.
So if Cian eats well, I'd skip the toddler milk (and save yourself some $$ in the process ).
Yeah I'd go straight to cow's milk if he doesn't have any allergies or anything.
Rowan's having a bottle of toddler formula at night but only because DH and I are both Lactose intolerant and too much milk gives her nappy rash and eczema.
we didnt BF as long so not sure about that switch over...
but at 15 months or so I switched to blue milk and gave her that 3-4 times a day. She still has a cup in the morning and one at night warmed and will have a calciyum or similar (or a fluffy etc) if out sometimes during the day also...we dropped her midday one about 4 months back as she didnt need it
It is very good marketing, they like to play on a parents worry that their child is not eating right. As long as your little guy has a good varied diet he shouldn't need a supplement. In saying that my little guy has Karicare toddler milk but that was purely to wean him off the formula and on to the cows milk, he has a morning and a night bottle and cow's milk in a cup at lunch. I couldn't breast feed past 6 months so he's been on formula for about 7 months.
Also my brother and sister and I were all bottle fed and waaay back then bottle babies were given full fat cow's milk powder. My uncle whos even older got diluted sweetened condensed milk!
