Hi all,

I'm hoping to soon start my first course of IVF and was just thinking that I could really do with some relaxation as I really get myself worked up about it all (I'm sure I'm not alone).

Does anyone have any ideas?

Any advice/tips would be great.

Thanks :-)

I used to have acupuncture once a week and felt nice and calm and relaxed afterwards. I've also heard it works well with IVF. Apart from that a nice bubble bath or bath with one of those yummy bath bombs from Lush or somewhere similar always helped out.

Not sure if you were looking for specific tips to do with IVF or just general things but I thought I'd start the ball rolling for ya...

Hot stone massage! There's a girl out in Manukau who does an amazing 1 hour massage for $55. I just went for one a few weeks ago and I'm going to go every 2 months 'cause I'm always a huge ball of stress.

Me too!! im also an anxious bundle of nerves about the whole ivf thing...
I am waiting for day 1 to start and this will be 2nd round of ivf/icsi for me.
All i can say is do ask all the questions you can, even take some questions with you when you see the nurses/doctors. I remember i did that last time as i seem to go blank and forget what i wanted to ask until too late!!
Im anxious this time round too! i soooo want this to work and have to trust the big man upstairs on this one!!
The EC (Egg collection) thing really scared the heck out of me last time but was good to ask questions on this forum and see how others experienced this. Good luck! when do you start your injections?

Another thing I've started doing which I find very calming is listening to jazz. In the Wee Small Hours and Melodie Gardot, in particular. Very soothing. Also, deep breathing, yoga and scents like lavender or rose are goodies.

Hi all,

Thanks for your replies.

I'm just getting very nervous about it all.

We have orientation on 3 August, 2 weeks today! Then I'm going to start as soon as possible. We are going privately as unfortunately we don't qualify for publicly funded treatment.

Thanks again. Will try the suggestions, fingers crossed.

S xx

The place is called Bella Vita Beauty Spa. She has it all set up at home. It's at 6 Ribbonwood Cres in Manukau City. If you're on the Southern, you jump off at Redoubt road. It's really easy to find. I live in Pakuranga and it takes me 25 mins from here. Because it's a residential area, there's heaps of parking. I'm stoked I found it.

Give yourself things to look forward to throughout the cycle - get a hair cut one week, maybe a pedicure another, or plan stuff around major milestones in the cycle (eg. down reg blood test etc) to give you a positive focus, and something to take your mind off what's riding on what you're doing. Get lots of rest too! Don't underestimate what your body is going through - it's exhausting, and hopefully you'll be doing pregnancy for 8 and a half months or so after the cycle too
