Michaela has been daytime toilet trained for months and was quite happily taking herself when she needed to go, she just needed help turning the tap on to wash her hands.

However since Thursday she's been having regular 'accidents'.  She's fine when we're out but when we're at home it's as if she doesn't care anymore.  Last night she was watching a movie and just went where she stood, without making any effort to go to the toilet.  Twice today I've had to clean patches of the carpet in her bedroom, the second time she was standing there talking to DH when she said "go wees daddy" and started weeing then and there.

It's driving me nuts and I have no idea what to do other than keep on reminding her to go and praising her when she does - that doesn't seem to be working atm.

A friend suggested that since her 'accidents' coincided with her first day by herself at kindy it may be a transitional thing but what does that mean and how long will it last?

She seems really happy at kindy - she even asked me to drop her off there a couple of times over the weekend and is so proud that she goes by herself.  On the days that DH & I went with her we were completely surplus to requirements and were both bored while she happily played.

I feel guilty about how I handled the incident this afternoon.  I was at my wits end after the second accident and so I told her that if she couldn't be a big girl then she could start wearing nappies again and I made her put on a nappy while she cried, sobbing that she isn't a baby.

Oh Jo, sorry to hear that. I don't have any words of wisdom as we just started TT today .

The only thing I can think of is to try and ride it out and try and not stress (i know, yeah right). I have just read the Gina Ford book this afternoon and she has quite a few case studies and bits of info on regression and I think you must be spot on about kindy playing a part. I am sure that in a few days she will settle and be back to her usual brilliant self . Until then to you both.

Oh man! We haven't had this problem at all but I am trying to think of some ways to help you out.

What about going back to basics, asking every 30 mins (which drove both us and Char nuts), maybe start up a star chart etc. I remember you did the teddy bear thing when if she was dry for the day she would get it. What about something similar but smaller, ie, an iceblock after dinner if she is dry all day and takes herself off to the toilet.

Don't feel guilty. Its a totally normal reaction and maybe, just maybe, she will 'remember' to go if she realises she is a big girl and they don't wear nappies.

Just keep at it. I hope it sorts itself out for your sanity. It has only been a couple of days so fingers crossed it doesn't continue for you.

We have had the same with both the girls and they do come right, but I also have jumped of the deep end at times and just lost it as you know they can do it.  I can't give you a time frame as I don't remember, still have the odd accident with both of them but usually if they are coming down with something or really tired.

All I can say is stick with the paitients, maybe get her to help you while you clean up the floor and herself, then you can praise her for helping you and being a 'big girl' and try and turn it a bit positive.  Hang in there

It sounds like she is getting distracted/lazy and perhaps that is because of all the new stuff on lately. Go back a step and she'll likely pick up soon.

At the same age Alia started going wee's outside, cause the dogs do , she was getting lazy I think. I think they get so absorbed in what they are doing & it is then too late. Alia had an accident at the park about 2 weeks ago & she was really upset, but she did agree it was because she was having so much fun that she forgot to go & it snuck up on her.

I always ask if & make sure she listens to me if I see her jiggling if she needs to go to the loo.

Not sure how to help, but keep asking regularily?
Kel

Well I'm pleased to say she had a completely dry day today and had a huge fuss made by both DH and I over it to show her how happy we are when she uses the toilet.  Now I'm hoping it was a very shortlived phase and we're back on the right track again *fingers crossed*

I had wondered that too, how would I know if she does have a UTI?  She's not complained of her wees being sore or anything and they're not dark or smelly.

She is drinking heaps because of the heat and she might be sick of regular trips to the toilet.

This morning she woke me at 5am to take her to the toilet because she didn't want to go in her night time nappy and she's very excited because we've promised popcorn this evening if she keeps dry knickers so I'm hoping that she just needed a bit more incentive to stay dry.  Maybe since the shine of being toilet trained had long since worn off and she was no longer getting praised for it everytime she couldn't be bothered - I really don't know.

I used to ask Alia if it hurt when she wee'd. But other than that I guess it's hard to tell?

That sounds promising though hopefully it was just a wee glitch

Go Michaela! I reckon she will be fine, just a period of lapse in concentration I would say. And yay for waking you up, that is the first step towards no night nappies too!!!!
