Hi ladies!

So I thought I would try my luck and post on here..
I'm 22 and I'm 14+1 weeks with baby number #1!
I'm currently in Hamilton living with my fiance but he has just been offered a new job in Wellington! He will be moving down when he gets a starting date while I will be up here working, saving money etc.
(It will SUCK when he leaves but financially better for us)
I will be delivering up here but when me and bubs are ready to go, we'll be moving down there.
I used to live in Wellington years ago but we both don't really know anyone down there so I would LOVE to get in contact with some Wellington mums! :)
Looking forward to (hopefully) hearing from you guys

Hi!
Hope your move from Hamilton to Wellington goes smoothly.

I'm 25 and currently 22 weeks now with baby #1 too. I moved here almost a year ago from Sydney with my husband so it's been a major adjustment since it's such a smaller city but you fall in love with the place once you settle in. The community and people are great!

Definitely touch base when you get in, i know moving somewhere and starting fresh is never easy especially when you want to have a good chat!

Looking forward to meeting you!
Lisa

Congrats on your pregnancy :)
I can't wait until I'm that far along, only just getting into my second trimester now.

How come you guys moved from Sydney? That must of been huge for you two, but that's awesome that you guys have settled in. Wellington is a pretty cool city, I do miss it but of course it will be a tad different this time around with a baby! Lol.

I'm an aussie but my husband is a Kiwi and has his business in NZ so once we had our wedding last year we thought NZ would be a better place to raise a family - we didn't expect to get pregnant so quickly though!

it's exciting and tiring :) i think everyone's pregnancy is so different that i haven't even ventured into reading about symptoms etc because you start worrying if you do or don't have them!

I hope your pregnancy has been easy so far - i've heard some terrible stories from my friends back home who absolutely hated the whole pregnancy...whereas i'm quite enjoying it.

I moved here from Nelson is 2004, when my 1st child was 3 months old.

I now call Wellington my hometown. As I love it here so much more then I did in Nelson. People are so much nicer here.

Yeah my pregnancy has been really good so far!
Here's hoping it continues that way :)
It will be amazing once our little family is all in Wellington together and then we can just focus on starting our new lives down there
I can't WAIT to get down there lol.
Where abouts in the Wellington area are you guys?
My fiance will be the one choosing our place by himself so that will be very interesting haha.

I live in Churton Park with my fiance and 2 girls.

It's quite a good suburb, as it's a couple of minutes drive to the motorway, which is always convenient and has good public transport for those who like to save on parking in town.

Hopefully your fiance can find somewhere that is good long term, while also being not too far from his work.

I like Churton Park, as it has a good Kindy and School.

I remember Churton Park as being such a nice area, I had a couple of friends who lived there so I did visit there from time to time.
I hope he does as well but I have all the faith in the world in him
So I don't know if it was okay or not, to join your FB group that you mentioned about? I know I'm technically not living there yet hahaha.

It is a nice wee cafe - we are regulars in there. They have a great outdoor area on a sunny day and awesome brunches. Ha ha, lets say I'm a fan.

Yep - due 9 October. Haven't even met a MW yet. Not easy securing one in Wgtn I've found. Did you have any trouble Escadachic?

You due in August?

I was lucky enough to get the same MW I had last time with my 2nd. Victoria Panteleeva. She works through Birth Options midwives and is just awesome.

That's cool, my 1st was due on 9th October, but she was 11 days late! Girls, like to be fashionably late LOL! She is now 9. And I found being pregnant through the cooler months much easier. As, with #2 I was heavily pregnant in summer, she was born on 8th Feb 2010.

Yeah, this one is due 8th August.

Hopefully you will get to meet your MW soon. I think they tend to start seeing you at 12wks. And yeah, apparently it is hard finding a MW in Wellington at the moment. So I was very happy I secured the one I wanted fast.

That cafe sounds lovely. I'm just often too poor to go to cafe's.

Hi Wellington mummy's and mummy-to-be's. I'm 15 wks + 5 with #1 (due early Sept) and I live in Johnsonville so close to a few of you!

I'm a fan of Cafe Thyme too Rachel123 - we go there for brunch a bit

And Victoria Panteleeva is my midwife too escadachic! I'd heard she was great and had one appointment with her so far and was impressed, glad to hear that again from someone who's had her before.

I might join your Facebook group too if that's alright.

Hi ladies,

I'm new to Wellington - we moved from the UK in October last year. I'm 5wks +2days, due on 17 November. I don't know many people here so I'm very excited about meeting other Wellington mums-to-be. I currently live in Wadestown but our house is rented and not suitable for children.

I also don't know anything about maternity care in NZ so any help would be greatly appreciated. I went to my GP who gave me a pile of stuff to read, a list of midwives and a lab form for blood tests. She told me to get myself a midwife. I'm a bit confused though. How do I do this? Do I just call them up? How do I know who to pick? What are the different groupings on my list - do certain groups follow certain approaches? What about independent midwives? What is a dating scan? How/when do I get one? When/how do I access ante-natal classes? When do I register with plunket? In fact what exactly do plunket do?

Any help/advice/pointers would be great. Feeling a bit lost at the moment.

Thanks
Laura

I think independent midwives are one's who aren't employed by the hospital.

Yeah I'm guessing different midwife places, that work at the same company, having differing approaches. Best to ask if they have a brochure they can send you. I used Birth Options, but I think they are based over Johnsonville and out as far as Whitby. So I guess it depends on whether you will be staying in Wadestown for the remainder of your pregnancy.

A dating scan is to make sure your due date is correct. You will get one if the GP thinks that you need one, otherwise you'll just be offered a 12 wk scan by midwife, once you have one.

The midwife will likely be able to give you info for antenatal classes, which I think you can sign up for around 25 wks maybe.

Not sure when you need to register will Plunket. What Plunket do is follow on care once your midwife care finishes, when baby is 6 wks old. Plunket do regular check up of babies health and weight and so on. They can also offer you lots of helpful advice and let you know of services you can access. They can also get you connected with a PIN(Plunket in the Neighbourhood) group, once baby is a few months old. Which is like a coffee group and generally connects you with people with babies the same age, around your area.

If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.

Wadestown is really nice. I used to live there when my oldest daughter was 3, til she was 5. I now live in Churton Park.

Congrats on having a baby on the way. I'm due in August myself with #3.

You are welcome to join our coffee group page. I think the link should be on this page, if it's not, I can give it to you.

Hi Wellington ladies, I'm 20wks' pregnant with my third child. I have two girls, a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old, but we're expecting a boy this time

We're in Lower Hutt but intend to move in the next year (maybe Wadestown/Wilton), to be closer to the school my daughter is going to be attending.

Laura it is overwhelming at first, isn't it? We moved from the UK half way through my first pregnancy and I found the process of getting a midwife etc quite stressful, but you shouldn't have any trouble finding a midwife (as I did).Yep, you can just call them up, but I recommend asking around for recommendations first (maybe even do a search on OhBaby, or other forums), and also have some idea of what you're after - if you'd like a home birth, for example, as not all will do homebirths.

I had an average experience with my first midwife, but the second was brilliant (much more experienced) and I'm having her again for my third pregnancy.

And your midwife should refer you to Plunket, so you don't have to worry about that.

I love Wellington too (though it's a bit love/hate, especially in the middle of winter!); I moved here for uni (I'm now 33) and though we've left a couple of times, we keep getting drawn back - it is a special place.

I had bad morning sickness that seemed to go on forever, but my second trimester has been great - I know that it's supposed to be, but with my last two I had issues like carpal tunnel and sciatica, which haven't emerged yet (touch wood!) I just need to go to bed super early!

Would love to meet up - I'll PM you, Escadachic.
