Yes i had my daughter almost 3 weeks ago and Nicky Chevalier, from Upper Hutt Midwives, was my midwife. Nicky was awesome, very calm and supportive...very down to business. I had to have an episiotomy to get baby out and Nicky performed this very confidently and seems to have done a good job of patching me up after.
I haven't used Upper Hutt Midwives but I went through Birthworks who are based in Pomare. They were all amazing, I was fortunate enough to have several of their team involved with my pregnancy and every single one was fantastic.
My sister went into early labour while on holiday from Oz and I called Birthworks who assisted her even though she wasn't a client - and there was nothing in it for them.
I have just moved (last week) to Upper Hutt with my husband for his job and have also just found out I'm pregnant (approx 6 weeks). As I don't have any friends here who have had babies, I'm looking for a midwife referral. Did you find Nicky was open to your birth plan (re epidural especially?). Keen to find a cruisey midwife who will support mine and my husband's decisions :)
Yes Nicky was very open and just a "go with the flow" kind of person. She didn't seem to have any very strong opinions one way or the other on things such as epidurals...i know some midwives can be rather anti-epidural. Nicky was very much just for seeing how it goes on the day.
