Topic: Heartbeat at 5w5dPosted: 06 January 2009 at 8:50pm |

Ok so today I noticed spotting and of course went into panic station mode
. With having the MC in July I immediately started crying and thought the worse!! Thankfully I have a fantastic Dr and he rang the scan place and managed to get me in to be seen .
Anyways, at the moment all is OK . Baby's heartbeat was just seen and beating at 94bpm . Which I was totally not expecting to be able to see.
The sonographer (sp?) also told us the sac was measuring at 5w4d (a day behind my LMP) but the fetus was measuring at 5w6d (a day ahead my LMP). Now I know there is room for +/-4 days, so Im not too concerned about that but what I want to know is, is Baby's Heartbeat in a normal range?? And also, does any know what the chances of MC is after seeing a heartbeat?? Thanks in advance ladies

I thought once a heartbeat is seen, the chance for m/c goes down to about 5% or something??? I remember reading it on here somewhere...
Huge congrats Rianna!! |

Oh Rianna, that would have been an awful feeling, so glad its still healthy! And wow, I wouldn't have thought you'd get a heartbeat so early!
I can't remember what my bubs' heartbeat was at the dating scan (I think I was 7 weeks? Damn preggy brain!), but I'm sure yours is fine, otherwise surely they'd say something? And I think I do remember reading something early on about a reduced risk of miscarriage once you've heard a heartbeat. Fingers crossed that this one stays sticky!

Seeing the heartbeat probably depends a lot more on the placing of the baby/placenta than on the age... it's usually around 7 weeks I think but if your one shows a week early, no worries!! Besides, it sounds like bubs knew exactly what you needed

Oh Rianna, how scary and how awesome!! When we saw our heartbeat for the first time (at the fertility clinic) the doctor said that meant there was about a 96% likelihood of a positive outcome.
Yay!!!!

Hey chicky, first of all congrats, must have missed that one! So glad you got a good pressie for Christmas!
I was told at my 7 week scan that once a heartbeat has been seen, the risk of m/c is between 2-3% so very, very low. Sorry don't know about the heartbeat, I've never really bothered with them as they can range quite a bit for a healthy bub. |

Yup the miscarriage rate goes way down once you've seen that wee heart beating away
When I had my first scan with this pregnancy, at 7 weeks, the doc said "the chance of miscarriage is bugger all now" and then said "about 1 in 300 or 400" so definitely hope for the best! Yay so glad your lil bubba has a nice heartbeat! |

Hey Rianna , I've also heard the same that once you get a heartbeat, the risk for m/c drops enormously, so yay for you hun! The spotting thing is scary as hell....I had intermittent brown spotting (and sometimes quite 'stringy' sorry tmi I'm sure it will all be fine for you this time hun. Already gettin' those boy vibes from ya! |

Good luck Rianna. I had the same thing with this pregnancy. Started spotting at 5.6w so had a scan and they could see a heartbeat. Didn't relax though until I had another scan at 8 weeks and once I knew the heartbeat was good and strong (and there were two of them) that I started to relax.

Hi Rianna
Congrats! That's awesome news hun. I've obviously missed your BFP post. I had my first scan at 7 weeks, my OB said that once heartbeat is seen risk of mc goes down to 5%; after 10 weeks its 3%. |

HI Rianna I had bright red bleeding at 8 wks like dripping blood TMI sorry but got rushed to have a scan and everything was fine. I just had my 12wk scan on Monday and my bub is doing really well and normal!
I have had a MC before too so it completely freaked me out. All the best for your pg! I'm sure you will be fine, my MW said after seeing a heart beat the chance of MC was 5% |
